Hey y'all/you'uns/yunz/yooz guys,

I'm currently hunting for the chords to Bright Sunny South, as performed
by Doc Watson. I've tried sounding it out, but either my ear sucks (good
bet) or it's fairly complex. All I know is it seems to be modal.

Anybody out there know?

Thanks,

Adam

Adam, not famaliar with Bright Sunny South but the song Sweet sunny south
is played out of D and is only 3 chords of course you can transpose :)

D
A
Take me back to the place where I first saw the light

D G
To the sweet sunny south take me home

D G D
A
Where the mocking bird sang me to sleep in the night

D A D
Oh why was I tempted to roam

If that is the wrong song, sorry :)

It's a different song, but I appreciate the effort.

Hey Adam I hear you man Ive searched all over for some chords and I finally found it using my ears. Not sure if It's exact but close enough. This aint the Doc version but the bittersweet and brier version....

C Am
From the bright sunny south to the war, I was sent,
F G C
E'er the days of my boyhood, I scarcely had spent.
Am F
From it's cool shady forests and deep flowing streams,
Am C Am G
Ever fond in my mem'ry and sweet in my dreams.

C Am
Oh, my dear little sister, I still see her tears.
F G C
When I had to leave home in our tender years.
Am F
And my sweet gentle mother, so dear to my heart,
Am C Am G
It grieved me sincerely when we had to part.

C Am
Said my kind-hearted father as he took my hand:
F G C
"As you go in defense of our dear native land,
Am F
"Son, be brave but show mercy whenever you can.
Am C Am G
"Our hearts will be with you, 'til you 'turn again."

C Am
In my bag there's a bible to show me the way,
F G C
Through my trials here on earth and to Heaven some day.
Am F
I will shoulder my musket and brandish my sword,
Am C Am G
In defense of this land and the word of the Lord.

I know this is really old, but if anyone else comes across it, your tuning needs to be (F,C,F,A#,C)

Start with open 4th string, then 3 fret 4th, hammer 2nd fret 3rd string. That will get you started!
