On VH-1's "Rockshow", Cane spoke of Godsmack's lead singer (????) story
of how he was asked to sing "Heaven + Hell" by Black Sabbath's manager
on the current tour. He said that he sang it at least twice with Sabbath
and the very first time he was so nervous that Ozzy had to finish the
vocals. When and where the fuck did this take place? Ozzy singing Dio?
Where's the tape, I don't believe it! Raddion just kicked his dog! TeRRy
just declared that Ozzy ruined it, without ever even hearing it! Sound
off people, if you were at a show this summer, name it and give us a
"yes" or a "no" for if Heaven + Hell was performed . ---jr

No way. I can't see that happening. Ozzy even said in the MTV interview that
he would not be doing that "Ronnie Dio" stuff (or anything from 1980-1995).

Hey, if someone does happen to have Ozzy singing Heaven and Hell, I'd sure
be interested in hearing it.

JR, Sully Erna of Godsmack is from my hometown in Methuen, MA. Tony heard
that he was a Sab fan and invited him to sing HnH during soundchecks. A
flattering honor, even if it wasn't full blown and recorded...

Theres a simple reason for that....He can't!! Its simple.Dio is one of the

Dios versions of the old sabbath songs on live evil surpasses anything Ozzy
could ever dream of doing from a vocal standpoint.Let the flames begin!!

Why would the Vh-1 guy & the singer of Godsmack both be stupid enough
to lie about our Ultimate Madman? I have read some where that Ozzy liked
the Heaven & Hell album so perhaps it's true. Sounds kind weird but
interesting at the same time. I'm lost in the wheels of confusion now
like when I was reading that certain theories maintain Jesus was an
Essarian initiate, & the Essenes were certainly Gnostics.

Jason, very wise words! I do not know how Heaven and Hell with Ozzy
would sound. But the idea is utterly intriguing. I guess Ozzy is able to
make something very personal of this new version. I think it would sound
so different from the original that we wouldn't even guess it was
written by another vocalist.
What would be even more interesting is hearing the original version of
Heaven And Hell before Dio joined the band. But I am not even sure if
Ozzy has written a singing line above this song in that time. It would
be fascinating idea to know he had though. It would have been something
coming from another solar system than Dio is living in. It could even be
more astonishing than comparing the difference between the Ozzy and Dave
Walker versions of Junior's Eyes, which are both fascinating, but have
extremely little in common. Although I still prefer the Ozzy version.
The reticence of his pathos, and the cutting tone in his high sounding
voice, make clear that Ozzy treated these lyrics as a very personal
issue. Maybe he was singing more for himself than for the album buying
audience. And this was just a way to hide behind the wall he build
behind his fragile soul

Moonflower,
The version of heaven and hell with Ronnie James Dio is the original
version. Dio wrote the lyrics to all of the songs on the Heaven and Hell
album.

I know that Karen. But from several songs and albums are older versions.
Mostly more or less the same riffs with different vocal melodies and
lyrics. For example the Seventh Star was originally recorded with Jeff
Fenholt and was called Star Of India. The Eternal Idol already existed
with Ray Gillen before Glenn Hughes joined. And of Junior's eyes there
also is a pre-Never Say Die version with Dave Walker.

Dio had to sing Ozzy's songs because whenever a singer replaces another one
he has to sing his previous stuff. Usually (but not never) the reverse
doesn't happen.

and the Live Evil version of Paranoid is pretty sad, too. I'm not
knocking Dio or Ozzy, I like them both in the context of Black
Sabbath, but happen to prefer the Ozzy years.

Raddion: It's really amusing that you devote so
much of your time and energies toward insulting
Dio and his admirers. It obviously irks you that
Dio is still a serious player, a true musician,
while Ozzy is not and in fact never was. You are
clearly a man of average or perhaps slightly
above average intelligence; I am curious as to
how you can be so enamored of cretin such as
Ozzy.Don't get me wrong, I myself enjoy all Ozzy
era Sabbath material and even Ozzy's first few
solo albums. That having been said, I can't bring
myself to admire Osbourne in any way, shape, form
or fashion. The memorable songs that Ozzy has
sung are memorable not because of Ozzy's voice
(undeniably awful) or his writing ability (he has
none) but rather because of the
writing/performing talents of the people around
him when those tunes were done. I would
appreciate a response outlining exactly what you
like about Osbourne and his performances. I'm
sure that if you really put your mind to it you
can reply with something of more substance
than "Ozzy's fuckin' cool" or "You fuckin'
suck". Tide12

Thats right. i noticed that when Daisley where on a ozzy album, the
lyrics and music were damn good. The ultimate sin is a complete piece
of scrap and he was no there. In fact ozzy bring the general idea of
the song and the band members have always do the rest.

Actually, Tide, I've barely been making quota lately! You shoulda seen me a few
months back...

To tell you the truth, that had not ocurred to me; I am stunned by this news...
All these years, the pleasure centers in my brain that are fed by my ears have
had it ass-backwards! I always thought Ozzy was the master vocalist and Dio was
a competent journeyman whose rather formulaic writing skills invariably
converge upon the same plotlines...

I'm sure I could too, but what's the point? To convince you that I am right and
you are wrong? I have written several intelligent and a few not-so-intelligent
posts regarding the many excellent Osbourne performances I have been witness
to. They're there, somewhere on Usenet, sprinkled about like little pieces of
