Hello,

I was curious if anyone could offer information on what type of
guitar or guitars Euronymous used with Mayhem. Also, are there any
places on the web that have information about what equipment other
black metal bands use?

Thanks

Yes, I somehow remember a picture of him playing a Les Paul...

All I know is that guitar was motherfucking HUGE! Definitely not something
he'd have picked for an "evil" look (like certain models by Jackson or BC
Rich).

I don't know if it was THAT big, remember that Euronymous was quite small
himself :]. I agree about the "evil" look thing though; something black at
least, don't you think? He's playing Jimmy Page's guitar for fuck's sake. Not
that this really matters, but given the tendency for Euronymous to take silly
things to pick on (jogging suits!!!!111) I found it quite humourous that he was
playing a Les Paul of all things.

Personally I saw it in Lords of Chaos, as embarrassing as that is to admit...

Your question is understandable, because the mythology of the band
often precedes any real facts.
But, the truth is that Euronymous only played the triangle and the
pink oboe, and the stright male lead in "Goodies For Jools"
off-off-Broadway.

There is something so wrong with this request.

It's probably just a Les Paul Standard, which isn't 'huge' but is pretty
sizable (wasn't Euronymous short?). It may not have the 'evil' look of
a Warlock or a Rhoads V but Les Pauls are the best sounding guitars on
the planet. Besides, maybe E figured that if they were good enough for
Quorthon they were good enough for Mayhem.

He played a Gibson Les Paul Standard with the sunburst finish. He ran
through an old Marshall head (1972-1974) I believe the model was a
superleadII, no clue if he used any pedal effects though.
