Before you buy.
I had no real opinion of this, until I watched tonight's episode of South
Park. After seeing tonight's episode, I didn't know which thread to reply
to. I could have replied to the 11/4/00 post "Rosie O'donnell Sucks!" or the
11/4/00 post "Don't forget to vote.". I won't go into all of the details of
tonight's episode, but I will say that it dealt with Rosie O'donnell and the
Florida voting situation in a very creative manner. I will also admit that I
am envious of the show, much like a beginning singer might be envious of
Bjork, or whomever they may think are excellent singers. Trey Parker and
Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, write for Comedy Central and are
paid millions of dollars, while I write to alt.music.bjork for free. Not
that I don't enjoy writing for you kind people, but I would rather have the
millions. That being said, I think that if Bjork had a male counterpart, it
would consist of Trey Parker and Matt Stone. I believe they are to cartoons,
what Bjork is to music. Besides, I could not think of anyone, male or
female, who would be a suitable counterpart for Bjork, when it comes to
music. My criteria were originality, creativity, uniqueness, and the ability
to entertain, whether through laughter or song.

I make that comparison, not because they are anything alike, but because for
most people, Jimi is the alphaMale of Rock. So Bjork is thus the Queen (or
Ice Princess) of electronic music.
The most common response is, "Oh, huh." Probably not much excitement
because I basically haven't told them anything about Bjork except that I
like her music a lot.

Really?
I have a buch of his recordings, and have scene him live, but surely his talent
lies in production, not in vocals.
He usually distorts them and stuff tohide how much it cracks. It even craks
when he speaks.
I guess there a certain signature to it that can become endearing, but . . . .
.
oh well, this is just my oppinion, yours is certainly just as valid.
Has anyone bought Tricky's latest album. It seemed to be released quite
silently. I only hear part of it. It sounds very similar to his old stuff . . .
.and that's not what I'm looking for if it does.
And recomendations/reviews of it around?

(It so weird seeing my name under someone else's posts too.)
Do you mean the guy who wrote Pretty Woman? How does he even compare?
Maybe you were making a joke. I don't know. Sorry, if you were, but I just
don't see him as Bjork's male counterpart at all.

<< who do you think it would be: >>
I just resurrect Roy Orbison and have him floating in some clouds singing, and
that would be enough.

No, I'm thinking about a lot of songs that Roy has sung, and there was this
weird ethereal figure hiding behind these strange dark sunglasses all the time
with this very weird hairstyle, and his voice had a strange ethereal beauty to
it, maybe in songs like 'In Dreams' and 'Crying', and an number of others. I
guess he was from a different era where they didn't make much use of electronic
equipment, he just about managed to creep into this era. He just seemed as if
he came from another planet a lot of the time. I like Bjork because of her
ethereal haunting voice and , these kinds of voices singing these kinds of
songs are things that I've got to think about.
Bjork is a strange ethereal being from another world for my mind to think
about.
You labelled her as the queen of electronic music, and then I never paused to
think of her that way, although I enjoy the electronic accompaniment to her
voice, I even like to hear her unplugged!
Maybe I must be seeing things from a different world than you, and these in my
world these things come together to make a certain sense
By the way, I saw DITD last Saturday and have been thinking about it all
week, it had a huge emotional impact on me. I really enjoyed reading
all the various posts here about the film, I also found that
"Selmasongs" is an emotional listen after seeing the film as it brings
her heart-wrenching performance to mind. WOW!
what is good by sakamoto? i have the "discord" cd and it is amazing. what
is his other stuff like?

yeah, even better/worse is listening to the "second to last song"
recording... you said it: wow
Oh, ok. I guess I don't know anything about Roy's other songs or his
personality. I think I'm too young to have appreciated him. I just thought
you were comparing all that is Bjork to "Pretty Woman" - Not one of my
favorite songs - so I didn't make the connection.

You are right, there is so much more to Bjork than her mastery of electronic
accompaniment. She has had her hand in just about every genre of music and
her voice is one of her most endearing qualities. But I think I will always
see her as an artist of electronic music. Not sure why, I just do.

I guess it was an okay song, but not the one that makes me a Roy fan. I'm not a
Julia Roberts fan.

maybe if Roy were alive and a young man, he might have been doing something
with electronics, who knows?
