Does anybody else think that the Danzig song that's so popular (read,
overplayed) lately "Mama- tell your children not to follow me" (Can't remember
the name, so there's a lyric clip) sounds a lot like Jim Morrison in both voice
and content?

Just a wierd speculation at 1:00 in the morning....

It's really funny that you mention that, because I have a friend who go me
listening to Misfits and Samhain, and he had some friends tell him that there
was group of people who *swore* that they believed Danzig was the re-incarnatio
n of Elvis & Jim Morrison in one body: if you've ever heard Little Pony Girl
on Samhain's November Coming Fire you can see the Jim side of it, and on
Misfit's Legacay of Brutality he does an Elvis-like tune: so much like him,
in fact, that I had my girlfriend's mom (a really big Elvis fan) fooled into
thinking that it *was* an Elvis boot. <smirk> Can't remember the name of the
tune, though..

sure does to me, too. such a similarity isn't exactly new, though. not
only does "mother" cop the whole jim morrison/"i'm a badass" feel, but
other songs (notably "i'm the one") do so to an even greater extent. and
when he's not doing the "jim thing," he's going back one generation, using
a sort of "elvis at halloween" deal.
not that this is all necessarily bad, though. i think danzig's very fun.
i also think he might be the devil :-)

later.

You are correct. Morrison is definitely an influence. Danzig's
second album is actually the same cover as the doors self titled
album, but it is danzig instead of the doors faces. He is also
heavily influenced by Elvis.

well, the new version of "mother" is on the thrall/demonsweatlive ep
(pretty cute title, eh?), and "i'm the one" is off of Danzig II: Lucifuge.

enjoy.

While i would agree that he sounds a great deal like Elvis, i think he'd
disagree about being influenced by him. He says that he "doesn't see the big
deal" about Elvis, that he just thinks of him as "a really good singer, that's
all." Apparently the reason Danzig covered an Elvis song on the new EP has
more to do with guitarist John Christ than with Glenn himself.

A little anecdote: i was playing the Danzig song "How the Gods Kill" about a
year ago in my art class, and a friend of mine asked, honestly - "Is this the
Doors?" I thought it was rather funny at the time...

The song is called "Mother" and the lyrics are:
Mother tell your children not to walk my way......

What the hell kind of drugs are you people taking? The Mother song...
any version I've ever heard (which is 7 to be exact) sounds nothing
like any Jim Morrision/Doors song. There are a few songs that sound
Morrisiony and they are as follows...
Godless (prayer part at the end) sounds like
Graveyard Poem in Light my fire from (Alive she Cried)

I'm the One, and the intro to Devil's Plaything (though I've been
told it sounds more like Roy Orbision, but I'd don't listen to Roy
so I can't verify that). That's all...

I think he tends to sing mostly like Elvis.
Trouble -- demo version before the first album was released
End of Time -- chorus "I'll be waiting..."
American Nightmare -- from Legacy of Brutality
Blood and Tears

With the exception of American Nightmare I don't think Danzig conciously
intends to sound like anybody...that's just the he sings...His voice
is rather baritone, as was morrision's but thats mostly the only
similarity between the two.

No, I don't think John Goodman sounds like Jim Morrison at all... :>

It's more than 20 years later, and I'm listening to LA Woman in the dark, and I have just started thinking that a lot of Morrison's sound, style, and delivery can be heard in Danzig's voice. Mr. Mojo has risen and now I think I'm gonna listen to a couple Misfits tune. This thread is clearly dead and you probably will never read this, but yeah.

Yeah, didn't think I'd find a converstion from the 90s about Danzig sounding like Jim. Which he 100% does in some songs especially in Mother.
