This may be a stupid question to a diehard CT fan but
I heard once that the french Poet Jean Cocteau wrote a poem
called The Twins. Is there such a poem? Is there a connection
to the Cocteau Twins? Does anyone have the text of the poem?

Thank You
Ron C.

i'd always heard it was from a Simple Minds song where they refer to
"cocteau twins" alluding to jean cocteau, but since i don't like simple
minds i've never tried to comfim it.

it was not a poem it is a book called the les enfants terribles published
in the us by new directions and it is called the holy terrors. part of the
book appears in the early cocteau film blood of the poet. it is the story
of two twins (b/g) who have their parents die but continue to live
together in a house. they fall in love with two other people and it is the
classic french love entanglement type of story.

great book, and a good read. check it out

OK. I've heard all this before.... DUH. Jean Cocteau's poetry/films etc.
and the Simple Minds song. That certainly gives a basis for the name, I
agree. However, Robin Guthrie has said himself, in response to that very
question, that he and his close friend Will Heggie (original bassist for
Cocteau Twins) thought of it as a joke. Apparently there were these two
homosexual guys (I'm not bashing, just paraphrasing) in their home town
of Grangemouth, Scotland who were into Jean Cocteau to the point of absurdity.
These two guys went everywhere together and were generally "known" in the
local underground scene. Robin and Will thought it cheeky to name their
band after these two guys, who they dubbed the Cocteau Twins. Believe what
you will... that's Robin's own explanation. He doesn't deny being into
Jean Cocteau, however, or at least appreciating Cocteau's films. Robin is
a big film aficionado.

"Cocteau twins" is likely a reference to the central characters (a brother
and sister who are twins) in Cocteau's "Les Enfants Terribles".
