Just wondering.. I was having an argument with a friend about who
people prefer, the Sundays or the Cranberries
I'd have to opt for the Sundays - they win hands down, even though
they've not done anything for ages

Well they've managed to make a baby. Some would call that work
productive (or reproductive).
This isn't even a contest, the Cranberries are not even qualified to
tune the Sunday's guitars let alone attempt to make music that equals
the stuff the Sunday's put out on a bad day.
The Sundays are awesome.

I would have to agree that the Sundays win, hands down.
Not to discredit the Cranberries abilities to throw a couple catchy
melodies together... :) but if you listen to the actual sounds they
are making... the Sundays are in a different world.. on a much higher
plain.
The Sundays also have a lot more depth in that each instrument's part
has its own uniqueness and, to some extent, ground breaking.
The Sundays' singer also has a lot more natural talent.. if you've ever
seen the Cranberries in a live setting... their singer really isn't all
that great... perhaps she is better now having played a gazillion shows
in the past few years.
Just a thought.

I'd have to agree Steve-o, but they both have two different styles.....
The Irishmen of the Cranberries overwhelm the outnumbered and undersized
instrumentalists of the Sundays, gnawing off the drummer's ear for a
trophy.
Later, John Major blames the whole incident on the Sinn Feinn and
withdraws from the negotiating table.

I agree. The Sundays are about a million times better than the
Cranberries. And I like the Cranberries too.

The SUNDAYS
Not only is the music better - and remains fresh 6 years after their first release,
but the singing isn't even close.
All right, it appears as though the Sundays have won this battle.
now the REAL question is: Sundays vs. Cardigans - who wins??
Twiddling his thumbs...

The Sundays still win this one. Although even the Cardigans, whose 2 albums
are both fantastic, still beat out the Cranberries.
I voted for the Sundays because their two cds are better than the three
Cranberries put out (IMHO of course) and I love Harriet's voice and at
times I have a hard time listening to Delores' voice.

Everybody, because while we wait in between Sundays albums, there are
Cardigans albums to listen to. Not that they're interchangeable, but both
are sublime.
Are they still together? What has it been, sixteen years since their
last album? I'm going to be raising kids by the time their next effort
comes out.
And what about the Primitives? Are they still at it? Victims of bad
timing, for certain (as with the Sundays). If they were playing around
now, they'd be more popular than Garbage, Sleeper, and Echobelly put
together.

Dolores gets her whiney voice drowned out by the romantic Wheeler
croon even as Noel Hogan and Fergal Lawlor overwhelm the overly polite
Sundays instrumentals. It was gonna be a draw until Shelleyan
Orphan's Caroline Crawley outsing both Dolores and Harriet both in the
Irish chant and the lovely croon, while the duo's innovative
arrangements outshine both the Sundays and the Cranberries.
Get Shelleyan Orphan. Now. Thanks to Bob for initiating me in
Shelleyan Orphan lore.
