Sometimes when you see a band with a bit of a legacy behind them, you
get a tad worried that they might not be quite what you expected. Talulah
Gosh were usually shambolic live, whereas Heavenly destroyed that myth,
and Marine Research took off from where Heavenly left off. In fact, the
only blame that can be laid down for any sound problems is obviously the
Charlotte's sound engineer, who must be one of the worst in the world (he's
the guy who took 30 minutes to soundcheck Super Furry Animals before their
set, and couldn't work out the principle of a left handed guitar).
Instruments kept on disappearing momentarily - which got quite annoying
during the support bands, but was really pissing everyone off by the fifth
or sixth time....
The majority of the set was culled off the "Sounds from the Gulf Stream" album, and was very close to the CD version all the time. The stand out tracks for me were the single "Parallel Horizontal" and "Hopefulness to Hopelessness" - Number One's in a parellel world.
A criminally ignored band.....

Haven't heard them, but I definitely keep hearing about them..
at least in the U.S... so I wouldn't say they're exactly ignored.
It would fill a gap.....
Alas, good reviews in all the papers don't always guarantee airplay
There's a guitar in that "band"? Yech...
Kris.
