uh...no.
Ian Kevin Curtis died in his apartment May 17/18th 1980, some time after
watching the film 'Stroczek' by Werner Herzog on television (not on
the VCR as is sometimes rumored). He was buried May 23rd (which,
interestingly, is Morrissey's birthday.)
His death was by hanging, some say in a closet.
He did NOT stand on a block of ice or hang himself with a meathook (????)
His suicide occurred shortly before Joy Division began their tour of
America supporting the Buzzcocks. He was NOT shooting up heroin (nor did
he use heroin), and it has never been reliably reported that he was
intoxicated in any way. It was unlikely as we was taking any sort of drug
as he was taking extreme amounts of medication for his epilepsy, which was
worsening. 'Officially,' he suffered from 'clinical depression,' which
should be obvious to nearly anyone.
I have no idea if he spoke to Genesis Orridge the day of the 17th but
it sounds pretty irrelevant anyway.

Is it true that he had a piece of fruit in his mouth when he died? If so
it might suggest some sort of pattern!
The sort of person who manages to find and transport a *huge* block of ice,
rig a noose, check camera angles and lighting, and then climb up onto the
block of ice and attach the rope is:
a) a performance artist
b) in a Peter Greenaway film
c) more disturbed than they are depressed.
Look, he was suffering from depression, he arrived at the lowest point and
he hung himself. There was no marching band, no flying saucers, Elvis did
not point the camcorder and thank him kindly at the end of the performance.
He was not dressed as a friendly lion, he wasn't singing Love Will Tear Us
Apart, the drop did not make his ears explode. There was no mysterious
puddle on the floor.
He simply died.
This entire thread seems incredibly pointless to me. I'd like to kill it
here and now if at all possible...

If you like JD cool, so do I, but just stay by your sterio and listen to
'Closer' or something, don't sit here and perpetuate this kind of "ian
curtis died for you" kind of shit. He was just someone who wrote some
good music, then killed himself. period.

floating around with different people... This always seemed incredibly
morbid to me, but is there any truth to this rumor? I'd like to kill

Yeah - I know. I have/had a friend who believed all of it. He believed
that the grey aliens were actually running the shadow government from
underground bases in Nevada & Colorado & listened to all the UFO
theorists (except for Whitley Striber, because he's a government plant &
is trying to convince people that the aliens are our friends). He also
thought that the greys were controlling George Bush & the CIA when JFK
was assassinated. After all this, I made the mistake of giving him a copy
of Illuminatus. He believed every word of it - even that there was a guy
named Hagbard Celine running around the ocean in a golden sub.
Terrifying what those mind implants make people believe, isn't it?
