MTV SUCKS!!! Anyone agree???

I think it's time for another channel. One that can please us all.
Something like Culture Television (http://www.culturetv.com) would be very
cool.

What they've become? Was MTV ever about music rather than marketing?
Commercial television programming exists for one reason: to deliver
products (e.g. viewers) to customers (e.g. advertisers). Concerns about
content are subordinate to whatever will attract the biggest audience,
and, hence, the biggest advertising revenue.
MTV took this equation one step further by realizing that they could show
nothing but advertisements (Because what is a rock video but an ad for a
record?) and get enough people to watch to make it highly profitable.
Don't ever expect to see challenging, intelligent, or diverse programming
from such a channel because that sort of thing delivers far less product
to the advertisers than, say, spandexed dancers on "The Grind" or 20
weeks of MTV's Spring Break.
If you want something different from corporate pap, you need to support
public TV and radio, community access and college stations. Because as
long as something's in business for the sake of advertisers, it'll always
be about marketing instead of music.

best. I did hear, however, that there is supposed to be a new channel
in development (by the MTV gang, of course) that is supposed to be back
to the way it was in the beginning. You remember the days of Buggles
videos, JJ Jackson, and the other cool vj's...Back when it really was a
new medium for music. Now its just another form of advertising - no
real content. Too bad...it had potential. Lets see if this new channel
really comes about or not...

Yes, Get rid of the game shows, and the beach house, mtv jams, and
the grind..... Put on more music. Keep the real world and maybe road
rules but play down the hype a little.....

Try MuchMusic - 8 hours a day of live (not prompted, pre-taped)
stuff, including live performances almost every day and amazingly
enough... MUSIC! and VIDEOS! (ok, I'm biased)... if you dont'
get MuchMusic in your area (it's on most Cablevision and some TCI
systems), call your cable company!

I coudn't agree MORE! The fact that they air more gameshows, news, and
other crap then actual music is bad enough. But when they do play music,
they play the same videos over and over and over again!

Yeah, they suck, but not because they don't play metal. It's because
they don't play any music at all. As a matter of fact, MTV is more about
teenage style than it is music. I never thought that I'd ever like VH-1,
but at least they do play music.

MTV blows like a crack whore for a number of reasons. Mostly its
because all of its music sounds like an extended commercial jingle. Bleah.

I can`t really say MuchMusic sucks because its the only thing we have, but I
can say that I would like to see something different.

the only thing i don't like about mtv, is that they don't play enouugh

Sorry, but if they screw the new channel up like they've screwed up MTV,
why bother with a new channel?? The only time MTV was good was in it's
80's hay-day, back when it was pioneering music. Now, it's pioneering
idiocy. What a waste!

Actually...they played a video from Lutefisk the other night, who are an
excellent, but very noisy, Los Angeles based band. I was quite surprised. Do
go see them live if you get the chance.

Right on. I hate MTV so much I decied to boycott it. Then I
found out it is much more fun to just watch the pathetic crap
they call shows. Just laughing at the morons on Singled Out
always seems to lift my sperits. Jenny M. is hot, but what a
bitch.
