"Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole."
I'm thinking that Andy Warhol said it, but that it was in a song too.
Any ideas? PLEASE?
Suzanne
The song to which you are referring is off the repo man soundtrack and is
performed by the Burning Sensations. There you go.

Johnathan said (when he was in NZ) that the only reason people liked the song
was becase it had a swear word in it.
That was a cool concert - as he played the guitar he kind of tapped danced on
the floor to beat out a rythem.

Your opinion is the absolute truth in this case.
And "Pablo Picasso" was also covered by John Cale
(who was also the producer of the original version).
The Rhino reissue, I have noticed, contains two tracks
that are not on my European CD release (nor on the
original LP). What are they like? Are they as good as the rest?

To the best of my knowledge, that's a cover. I'm pretty sure it was
originally done by Jonathan Richman.

Jonathon Richman, in his song Pablo Picasso. By the way, soes anyone out
there have much Jonathon info? Particularly, what are the chances of picking
up anything on vinyl? In the UK there have been some re-releases of a
couple of his earlier albums, but on CD only. Bad news for the few
remaining vinyl freaks amongst us.
Richard.
It comes from a Jonathon Richman song. Look for him on tour right now.

Damn! Now that you asked I forget the name of the song and band. It was
featured in the movie RepoMan and is on the soundtrack.
I believe the line concludes a verse saying:
"Consequently Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole"

It was on John Cale's Helen of Troy album circa 1977 the song was called Pablo
Picasso (I think) it may be available on Cd as much of his stuff has been
released lately. matt

This might have been said before - I haven't caught this whole thread - but
it's on the Repo Man soundtrack, performed by the Juicy Bananas (or was
it the Burning Sensations? It's been a while since I listened to it).
The rest of the soundtrack is pretty good too!

Surely some mistake here -- "Hospital" appears on the original LP.

Minor nit: not all of the LP was produced by Cale.

Wasn't "Pablo Picasso" also on the _Repo Man_ soundtrack?
Just wondering.

A few of J.R.'s earlier albums are out of print altogether. Those that
are hauled out of the vault ("Jonathan Sings" was released about 6 months
ago after eons of absence) seem to only come out on cassette and cd. I've
had some luck finding mildly used copies of most of the missings lps but
it's taken a few years of used-record flipping in stores.

Pablo Piccaso is a Jonathan Richman Song. Modern Lovers version
is on s/t album "Modern Lovers" beserkly '76
Also the producer of this album John Cale has a version
of this song in his album "Helen Of Troy" Island'76
I could be wrong, but I think the credits for Repo Man listed the Circle
Jerks for "Pablo Picasso".
Jonathan performed it when I saw him in January:
"Some guys try to pick up girls and get called an asshole
That never happened to Pablo Picasso...
When he walked down the street the girls could not resist to stare
Pablo Picasso never got called an asshole
Not like you."

we'll sink with california when it falls into the sea
i think that was some sort of chorus, or part of it, at least.
thanks in advance,

Emilio Estevez was cruising away in the car feeling pleased with himself while
this song was playing. He mounted the curb accidentally knocking over a
rubbish bin - his cool was blown and the song ended.

David Byrne said "If the Blue Suede Shoes was the definative statement on the
teen consciousness of the Fifties, what does the gauche awkwardness of Pablo
Picasso say about the kids of the seventies?"
I'm not sure but does anyone know?--

The song is called "Sink with California," performed by Youth
Brigade. Pretty much required listening for anyone growing up
behind the Ornage Curtain.

That song is called "Sink with California" from one of the greatest punk
rock albums of all time. Youth Brigade's first album. You can get this on
cd now in super-extendo form. The cd, I believe, is called "Sink with
California".
