No, you're not wrong, she is indeed deserving of much qualified hate.

I certainly wouldn't take issue with her journalistic scribblings for
several big deal publications - she writes well, but I cannot equate
her honed reviewing skills and genuine muscial savvy with the woman I
see perched smugly in the presenters chair of the awful 'The Naked
City'. She is so benign, and flat, completely unlike what you'd
expect, from her work with MM. Truthfully, she looks more cut out for
after-dinner drinkies at a 'delightful' restaurant with her 'chums',
than rockin' it up, out of her skull, to Clawfinger's 'Tell me the
truth, mother-fucker'. Not that that's necessarily the definitive
criteria to establish one as a credible presenter of what I guess
is trying desperately hard to be a music show that appeals to
persons of an alternative bent (Charlatans UK on this week).

I find her sappy cohort Johnny Vaughan (or 'Vaughnny' as she calls
him - Oh, they are such 'chums', aren't they) heaps more irritating.
I can't help but feel that he doesn't actually like any of the music
or bands that get played. I'm full sure he doesn't even like music,
he just wants to be a big TV presenter, for which, I guess you can't
fault him.
Alright, so Jools Holland isn't everybody's cup of tea,
but at least, with his show, you know that his love of music is
pretty strong, and he's a heck of a piano-player.

----

The three-chord trick! Huh! Why the overcomplication. Just one
chord does me fine.

This maybe so, and I can't stand her. But she was at the Flaming Lips gig
I was at last year, so she can't be all that bad.

She probably has to do all that daft stuff for the producers of the programme
or whatever. She can't be like that all the time. Can she?

Yes, Caitlin Moran does all these things. The trouble is, she
doesn't do them very well. If she is intelligent, it certainly
doesn't come across too much. If she has talent, it doesn't lie in
the field of television presenting. She does have good taste in
music, but then so have plenty of complete no-hopers writing for
the British music press.

Really? I would. :-)

At least Melody Maker doesn't employ Steven Wells, who manages to find
a way to work his political views into every single article he writes.
Including an interview with Shonen Knife. Now there's an annoying
journalist.

I think she can, going by her appearances elsewhere. Conceited, precocious,
and irritating come to mind. I hate the way she makes a point of the fact that
she left school at the age of 12 to write a novel. God, she must be good then.
Speaking of C4 music programming, Mark Radcliffe will be presenting a reggae show
on C4 somewhat cryptically entitled "The White Room". Hopefully Lard will also be
on.

Caitlin is the only person I know who has said on British TV that she loves
Throwing Muses. As such she is okay in my books (I'm a simple soul). She can
also be witty. However she is currently winding me up something rotten by
ending each weeks Naked City (not a great program) with "...and next week
I'll be talking to the Sisters of Mercy".

Now being one of the few Muses/Sisters fans in the world (no apologies), I've
now watched far more Naked City than is good for me. It just goes to show
that careless remarks wastes lives.

If you're reading this Caitlin, either interview the bloody band, or stop it
(like you almost did last week).

Well, Swells has an unspeakably annoying ability to be holier-than-thou
(and that Shonen Knife interview was one of the most irritating interviews
I've ever read, I'll agree - that was the one where he accused them of being
liked as a thinly-veiled substitute for child pornography, wasn't it?), but
the man can insult people for England. And he can be extremely funny.
I'm not sure if I *like* him, but I think there's a place for him....
If only he didn't like Chumbawamba......now there's a crap band, and no
mistake. He certainly isn't in the same league as True.

Digressing again, there.

I must admit that I can not stand that woman; she's conceited, dull and
irritating. Her television appearences aren't as bad as her mindless
contributions to the music rags though. Her articles are the usual
content free guff that her contemporaries (gits, for those who don't
like long words!) are famed for, but she isn't even amusing.

I wish she'd sod off and stop annoying everyone.

Chris.

There is a difference - Caitlin can occasionally be funny.

Also Jim Arundel, Peter Paphides, David Bennun, Taylor Parkes (and scratch
Cathi Unsworth). Having admired CM's work in MM and The Times, it was
a great disappointment when I first saw her on Naked City - she is
extremely irritating, there's no avoiding it. I thought it might be
nerves for the first couple of shows, but she hasn't changed. It's a
shame `cos she's got great taste in music (Mazzy Star, Afghan Whigs, Boo
Radleys etc.), which is something of a novelty for `yoof TV' presenters,
but she's pretty much unwatchable. I hope she's not going to become one
of those `everyone loves to hate them' TV presenters who turn up everywhere -
Lloyd Grossman, Nina Myskow etc. Stick to writing, dear.

AAW YES! Will we get to see Scrawns face? The Radio show's corking but TV would
be superb. I agree that the boy Lard *must* make an appearance.

Really? Hasn't Mark Radcliffe refused to do TV in the past because
he doesn't want people to know what he looks like? (Even his publicity
photos show him wearing a hood and sunglasses.)
