Sarah McLachlan has said that her song Rivers of Love
is about learning to love oneself. But I think it
also means leaving past baggage behind and starting
fresh.

What do you think it means?

I hope she is born from the tunnel soon. :-)

The lyrics are:

There's a tunnel that leads to the rivers of love
The sides make you bleed 'til your white as a dove
Don't bother to bring all the baggage you cling to
The porter will free you before you come through

The doorway that cleanses
The darkness that mends
It's easy to smile in the end

And it all comes down to leaving it all behind
And moving on to the rivers of love
And never be lonely again
How long have you waited? How long 'til you drown?

The rules and directions, the twists and corrections
Take tolls on the highs, we still strive 'til we die
To seek out the one love, the one that we dream of
The one may be there with you everyday

Alone and untethered and free of all ties
Free since the day you first cried

And it all comes down to leaving it all behind
And moving on to the rivers of love
And never be lonely again
How long have you waited? How long 'til you drown?

And it all comes down to leaving it all behind
And moving on to the rivers of love
And never be lonely again
How long have you waited? How long 'til you drown?
How long have you waited? How long 'til you drown?

The tunnel sounds like the tunnel in some near death
experiences (with a bright light at the end) so maybe
she is talking about being reborn, or born again, although
I doubt in the fundamentalist Christian sense.

But I think she talks about the song on the short
DVD that came with Laws of Illusion so I will give
that a watch later this evening and then comment
on here some more.

On the DVD she says the song is a love song to herself
and that you don't need to seek love outside yourself
but can find it in yourself. By that I take it to
mean that you need to love yourself before you can
love someone else properly.

My favourite song on the DVD keeps changing. This
time it is Love Come.

Before Illusions of Bliss she says it is about
something that kind of should be done. By done
I guess she means finished, but another meaning
of done is performed, so something should be
performed.
