Three griot grandsons of the late Alhaji Bai Konte are touring the USA and Canada solo and in duos in 2019, during September, October and November. See:
http://www.africanculturalencounters.com Contact me to discuss a performance, mini-residency, interactive musician workshop, classroom teaching experience. Venues include colleges, universities, music schools, performance halls, media interviews. The griots can show the film Alhaji Bai Konte, or show the video Making The Kora. The www site includes a teachers guide that suggests discussion topics, and also includes print and audio resource materials to prepare for the best teaching experience. The musicians all learned from Alhaji Bai Konte and his sons: Dembo Konte, Mamadu Conteh and Malamini Jobarteh in Brikama, Gambia. My wife and I lived with the Konte family for a year in 1971-1972, brought him to the USA and Canada 7 years to tour and teach. The grandsons are touring to encourage music students to learn at their traditional music schools in Gambia. They and their associated griots teach kora, balafon, drums and more. All suggestions and inquiries are welcome! I may be reached via the email link at:
http://www.africanculturalencounters.com or by email from this list. All of the grandsons have toured internationally, have music albums and are experienced teachers, speaking fluent English.
