Yeah, we get the idea! Pity I can't actually ACCESS that newsgroup...

The reason why, you see multiple posts is that when I the first one, it never
showed up on the newsgroup, I posted another and another, they never showed.
So, I thought they weren't getting through. Finally a day later, they showed
up. Normally, when I post something, it appears on the newsgroup after a
couple of minutes. Sorry for the multiple posts. BTW, you need a program like
Agent newsreader to decode the binary files from UUE into an MP3 file. Agent
does this automatically and assembles the segments together.

Where can you get that from? Sounds quite useful actually!
www.newsbin.com for Newsbin Pro
Free Agent is great for discussion threads on Usenet. I prefer
Newsbin Pro for downloading binaries; it's much more flexible.
My suggestion, of course, is to try both. They're both easy to get
the hang of.

If by "par" and "pat" you mean "pay," you *don't* have to pay for the
privilege of reading newsgroups. Usenet, which newsgroups are on, comes
free with every ISP. At least, I haven't heard of an ISP that doesn't
provide Usenet.

You mean that AOL doesn't have the newsgroup that the binary was posted
on? Well, not all ISPs carry all newsgroups. With most ISPs, you can
get a missing newsgroup by asking the ISP to provide it. I wouldn't
hold out much hope of AOL doing the same, though. Sorry.

So what's wrong with alt.binaries.abba? I was taking that for a few weeks
but never saw ANY postings so I unsubscribed. If people are going to be
posting again, I'll start taking it again. :)

Great! Except that it's technically an '80s song (sorry to nitpick).
I don't know how to access binaries newsgroups either. Since Deja was
taken over by Google they don't allow access to them, and I don't know
of any net-based site that does anymore. :( Well not without payment,
anyway.
This topic came up in here six months ago, and here are two of the
suggestions that came up then:
http://www.mailandnews.com/ - free, but I don't know if it has binaries.
http://www.meganetnews.com/ - not free, but $6 a month isn't bad.
I'm afraid that free binary groups have become another Net-freebie
victim of the dotcom bust. From now on, if you want the goodies, you're
just going to have to bite the bullet and pay for the service, or at
least use a halfway-decent ISP that will provide it. And any ISP worth
using will have access to any binary group you want.

I posted the files to alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.1970s
I guess I should have posted "One of Us" to the 1980s newsgroup, sorry.
As somebody mentioned, if you want the mp3 newsgroups, you'll have to pay for it, I subscribe to a
U.S. based newsgroup provider.
