Has anyone used this effects device? Do you think it's worth the money($120)?

Let me know.

Thanks, Mike.

Check out the effects database on www.harmony-central.com
There is at least one review of it on there.

I read that user-review. I'm looking for more input though. I don't want to
make a decidion based on one guy's testimony.

Thanks, Mike.

Still only one reply on there eh? I guess the product hasn't caught on yet.
Usually the other Zoom products sell like hotcackes. You would think it
would be a popular unit but I guess the Lexicon MPX-100 must be really
cutting into their sales hard or something. All in all, if it's anything
like their 1201 or any of the other 1200 series rackmount processors, in
terms of sound quality, then you can make a safe bet that it'll be worth the
money. At any rate it certainly has many more features designed for
recording then it's nearest competition, the Alesis Nanoverb. If I didn't
have tons of software based mastering effects on my computer, I'd probably
pick one up.

I just bought the RFX-300 today and spent the better part of 2 hours just running
through the effects loop on my MT4X. I used a recording I made of Norwegian Wood
and tried the unit on each of the channels. The unit was quiet (at least as quiet
as any effects unit I have). The instrument effects on the guitar and sitar
tracks and they really made parts stand out. the vocal effects too were easy to
use. The microphone simulator does not really make a dynamic mic sound like a
condenser but it did warm up the vocal track. I haven't tried the mix down
effects yet. I do think it's worth the money.

good luck,

Tom

I ordered one from MF and used it for a few weeks but eventually returned
it. I guess I'm indecisive. I have nothing to compare it to, since it was
the first effect I've ever bought, but I would recommend it. At least try it
for 30 days.

The only thing I thought was odd was that they recommended you route your
guitar through a pre-amp / stomp box before going into the input. The case
was plastic but the knobs turned nicely.

They have a few two-effect combinations of the chorus+reverb type, but the
compressor is never included :-(

One advantage over the MPX-100 is you can max out the adjustable parameters
and get wacky results :-)

The main reason why they recommend to route your guitar through a guitar
preamp first is probably because the unit isn't designed as a guitar effects
unit but more for line level signals from a 4-track or something similar.

How's the reverb on the RFX-300 (compared to any other reverb effects you
may have used)? Is it metallic sounding? Is it grainy? Does it color the
sound heavily (change the tone), or is it nice and transparent?
Let us know what you think of the mastering effects. That's probably what
I'm mainly curious about.
