Any opinions on which is better, the Tascam 424 MKII vs Yamaha MT4X? I
need a 4 track recorder to capture 4-track performances (2 vocal, 2
instruments), then mix down to 2 track. I had a salesman recommend the
Yamaha, but that was based solely on Yamaha's 1 yr warranty vs Tascam's
90 day. The Tascam seems to spec out a little better overall, but they
look like fairly comparable machines. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I have never used the tascam, but i can tell you that the mt4x is a
good machine. I used one for over 2 years until i upgraded to an 8
track, and it worked very well. After about 2 yeas the heads started
to wear out, but i had used it alot.

I love my 424, I would never sell it. I've had it for 2 years without
problems (knock on wood)..

I'm sure the Yamaha unit is good too. Just pick what you like.
Either way you'll make recordings and learn something while you're at
it.

Sound quality is rougly the same across the board. It's all about
features and reliability.
