Ok, now that I have the thing working, I can go through and add a race
or class, and even create said character with new race and/or class.
However, as soon as I leave the game and re-enter, it changes the
character to a standard race/class.
Example: I created a race, #14. Char created, works fine, run around
as race, exit game, come back in, suddenly now a half-ogre instead of
the "new" race.
Another example: added a new class. Created char, class as
umm...whatever it'd be (16?), works fine, run around as that class
with its abilities, etc, exit game, come back in, suddenly a ranger.
What gives?
And any idea on why it detects corruption when I edit existing
races/clases yet INSERTING one DOESN'T cause a corruption? Ideas
please?

Here's the vitals: WG3.2 NT
MMUD 1.1w NT

And that should be all... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ugh if that's the only option then screw mud. I can barely tolerate
anything after 1.1f as it is. Screw this game then. Thanks for the
reply though, I do appreciate it.

Well what he told you doesnt have jack to do with your problem.... I run 1.11b and
the same thing happens to me. All i can narrow it down to is it isnt buffering the
new race/classes. I've checked time and time again the new race/class is avail, but
wont save... always back to rangers and half-ogres... yet if you check the
buffers.. no matter how many race/classes you add it isnt buffering them..
one of these days it will annoy me enuff to figure out where the limits are.
maybe someone will just tell us so i dont have to use my brain cell, its tired.

Well in a way I'm glad to hear that (thought it was just me and this
version) but that doesn't change the fact that it sucks. I've been big
on hexing the puny files anyhow, I have better luck hexing the update
file. I wonder if the same applies for how MMEDIT would do if it were
to edit the update file instead of the standard ones. At any rate, I
doubt we'll know. It's just too bad they won't open source the damn
game. Or that another editor doesn't pop up.... Oh well. Cheers.

First off, take the bbs down, Copy wccrace2.dat and wccclas2.dat to
wccrace2.vir and wccclas2.vir ... Use the editor, then exit when
your done, copy the wccclas2.vir to wccclas2.dat and the wccrace2.vir
to wccrace2.dat in the worldgroup directory. This works perfect for me.

ooook
I think we know that already... there is one variable here for everyone...
the crack you used.
That is why it works fine for you. and that is the only reason. my crack
unfortunately didn't.

The problem is the crack... there must be something in the game, like anti-whack
stuff that won't allow new races/classes. You can modify existing ones alright,
but as soon as you add a new one it will always switch races to half-ogre and
classes to ranger. Think about it... you hex both race and class and then
suddenly you have one of the highest exp tables in a sneaking class with the
race that has lowest agility, as punishment for being "bad" ;>

The crack has nothing to do with it. If you dont have the crack, you
cant do jack shit, such as even look at the class/races. If your crack
lets you go inside and modify it, its not the crack. When you load the
game back up, the wccupdat2.dat file will notice that it is modified, so
try using a 1.11b crack, there is one floating around that disables the
wccupdat2.dat file so that it wont re-update the files.

Actually all this is a moot point unless you modify the wccmmud.dll. The dll
has a few checks it does to the dat files. Such as # of classes/Races,
abilities and "silly spells". So unless you patch that you will keep loosing
the extras. Easy enough to do if you grab your dissasembler and wack the
dll, but of course that would, I'm sure invalidate your usage license.

it seems like EVERYTHING has to be repeated 4 or 5 times before the bastards
get it in their heads.

I had the same problem witht he races and classes with them changing
back...and I can answer your questoin on it corrupting the file to...when
you edit the races, even with mmedit2k, you can't change the first letter in
the race name, that is what causes the corruption, happens every time, the
game must have some check for that...you can mess with classes all you want
but it is anal about races

In the interest of debate, Have any of you that got the race/class addition
to work tried Retraining your guy? We did it on my board and it reset us to
HO Ranger. I know this isn't that big of a deal but just saying. Try it and
see what happens. be sure to backup the player files first though.

There is not much to debate ;)

With 1.11b (I haven't tried it with earlier versions), on retrain or sometimes
even just when you enter the game it switches the character to HOR. No one can
get it to work for very long, even if you do recompile wccupda2. You can create
new chars and reroll all ya want, it won't be permanent. (Unless of course you
invalidate your liscense by whacking the dll...but, that's a bad thing... right?

I've got 1.11b running and I've used MMEDIT 2000 (??) on it to add a race and
a class. I've retrained the character repeatedly and my race and class have
never changed.

The only problem I've had with a new race is the 2nd neutral quest. I can't
complete it with the new class. Apparently majormud doesn't know what kind of
bonuses to give the class for completing it.

The major problem is probably the crack you used. if you add a new race or
class and then later on it converts the character to a HO ranger then the
problem is that the crack you used doesnt stop majormud from updating itself.
What happens is majormud updates itself and when it checks the integrity of the
files and sees that its corrupted it changes everything back to default.

The solution get a crack that stops megamud from updating itself. XoBlastoX's
crack is the one I use.

From someone who had that exact same problem
