I edited my experience on a few of my guys in mud, and then trained them to
level 50. If I try to do any quests with them, I get the error
"wgserver.exe - BTRIEVE UPDATE ERROR 4 ON FILE .\WCCUSER2.DAT

I will also get that error if i train them past 50. Another weird thing is
I can train as High as I want anywhere, such as the universl trainer, I can
train all the way up as high as I want. Anyone know what is going on, and
can Help?

just means you edited something wrong, copy the wccuser2.vir over the dat
and remake your char... (and make sure you know what you are editing...)

I hear a lot of people bashing because they think they know
everything. I've been hex editing since the days of the original
Civilization (can you guys even remember that far back?), and I have
experienced the same problems with edited EXP -- both being able to
train universally and crashing the game on quests. It's possible that
you editted the EXP too high, in which case every time you do a quest
which gives you EXP, the game crashes. Does it tell you that you
can't earn any more EXP when you kill something? I think this problem
may even occur if you don't max out the EXP. Honestly, I'm not sure
why. It's not because you're "dumb" or careless -- some information
on editting the EXP just isn't there. There's something missing. If
anyone knows what and can provide an intelligent response, we're all
ears.

Uh yeah I can remember that far back, I was hexing games on the ATARI 130XE
15 years back and everything else between now and then, little rusty these
days tho. To get around that you really shouldn't just give yourself a bunch
of exp, either edit the monsters xp or edit the xp tables.

You can't "hex your experience too high" for a few reasons.. in the
wccuser2.dat file, on any given character "data sheet" your experience is
handled by a set of four hex's.. "00 00 00 00" etc etc for however much exp
you want. you can set these anywhere from 00 00 00 00 to FF FF FF FF,
giving you any amount of experience. the problem that you run across though,
is that if you aren't the only person in the realm (you actually RUN a bbs,
or have more than 1 account made on your own personal do-whatever bbs) then
the top 10 gets screwed. sure you hex the experience no problem, but your
experience is also saved in another part of the wccuser2.dat file, where it
references the top <x> users, and if the top10 list shows that you have 27
million exp, but your character shows you have 4 billion exp, then there is
your problem, they dont match. you have to either be the only person on the
bbs (so the top 10 consists of only your character) or also change your
experience in the top users part of the wccuser2.dat ... that is your
problem.

Hmmm.... interesting suggestion. I thought I solved the Top Ten
problem by setting the mud to exclude my hexed character(s) from the
list. Perhaps not. In any case, we can all blame and flame Will
Dewitt for our hacking and hexing woes. heh

Hacking without crashing....

WCCUSERS.DAT
1. Seach for 1st occurance of the user ID that just preceeds the mud character
name.
You might find there is more then one occurance of both, you must find the entry
that
has user ID then a few bites spare then the mud char name.

2. Count 60 bytes from the 1st letter of the user ID... add your exp to the long
int there
(4 bytes). Now count 68 bytes from the start of the user ID... this byte is the
characters level. FE for lvl 254 :) Now save

3. BTRIEVE /P:2048 Enter then WGSRIDX WCCUSERS Enter. Reindex of the btrieve
files... the key to not crashing.

4. Start ya bbs and have fun.

My lvl 254 de ranger BS's for over 2000 everytime :)

Easiest way to edit exp (that I found at least)

Get an old copy of MajorMUD. One that MMedit works on fully.
Edit the exp on your chars and level, then rename it to the
stupid wcc2 crap.dat files. Only thing that will transfer over
is exp and level.

Can't find a way to get cash to transfer, which sucks because I
really need some *grin*

Anyone know how to hex in cash or items to mud? Give me a few
pointers?

To edit your cash is easy, just deposit say 1523 copper, then search for the
string 1523 and then change it
the file is bank2.dat something like that, but if you've ever tried hexing
anything before it shouldnt be too hard

Hi Kevin,

Surely you cant be telling us bank account data is stored as a string? I would
have thought
an unsigned long or something.. but a string.. are you sure?
