I have a double-spaced MS-DOS 6.0 file (dblspace.000) that is 80 mb in
size that I'd like to recover. I don't have the dblspace.ini and
dblspace.bin files (and any other files) that might be associated with
this file.

What I'm looking for is a proceedure to re-create the original double-
spaced file system, or a program that can extract the file structure
and files from this archive file.
Please e-mail any replies. Thanks in advance: Wayne

It would help if you would explain how you lost contact with the compressed
disk volume. And what do you mean by "double-spaced *archive* file"?

Assuming that you've gotten a CVF from some other computer that has
DoubleSpace installed, and assuming that you've got nothing using the
drive letter H, you can activate DoubleSpace on your machine by
using the following procedure:

1. Rename the file to DBLSPACE.001 The name "DBLSPACE.000" has special
significance you don't want to get involved with.

2. Copy C:\DOS\DBLSPACE.BIN to your C:\ root directory. The file will
have normal attributes in the C:\DOS directory. In a normal system
with DoubleSpace the copy in the C:\ root directory is marked
system/hidden/readonly but this has no effect on its function.

3. Using your favorite text editor, create the file C:\DBLSPACE.INI
with the following lines, all left-justified. WATCH THE SPELLING:
A TYPO WILL NOT BE DIAGNOSED!! There are no embedded blanks in any
of the lines. The capitalization is *not* significant; I'm showing
it as it would appear in a normal file.

MaxRemovableDrives=1
LastDrive=H
MaxFileFragments=113
ActivateDrive=H,C1

If the DBLSPACE.001 file is not on the C drive, replace the letter
C in the ActivateDrive line with the correct letter. Similarly,
if your system uses drive letter H, substitute something else in
the LastDrive and ActivateDrive lines.

4. Reboot. The DoubleSpace compressed files will now be available
on the H drive.
