Batch files now running extremely slow

This just happened to me an hour ago, where my batch files would take
4-5 seconds pr line to execute! This has happened to me before and the
only solution was to re-install XP.
this is infuriating needless to say. I did not change anything in my
system.

Reboot and run this, and report back what it prints on the console.

I renamed the file from .bat to .cmd and it went back to normal speed.
Anyway I reinstalled windows and the problem went away
