I'm just wondering if any British film fans know anything about what Josie
Lawrence ("Enchanted April," the TV series "Whose Line Is It Anyway?") has done
the past few years. I know she is primarily a stage actress, but she has an
excellent flair for both comedy and drama, and I'd love to see more of her on
the screen.

Aha, a fellow Josie Lawrence fan. Are you in the UK? If so then you'll be interested to know that she is in a short film in BBC 2's 'The Talent' thread which is a show case for new directors. It's on Thursdays, I think it was her that I saw in the trailer but I don't know when that particular film is being shown. It could be this week (Thur 23rd, 11:20-12:30). I do believe she is also in the process of making a film right now, provisionally entitled 'iloveyoulovemelove'.

Years ago she did a couple of episodes of The Comic Strip Presents... and in the early 90s had her own sketch show, imaginatively called 'Josie'. She spent a few years being absolutely hilarious in the TV series 'Outside Edge' alongside Robert Daws, Timothy Spall and Brenda Blethyn. The very fact that you didn't mention this indicates you either live in the UK and forgot about it OR, you live in the US and haven't heard of it. Anyway, it's available on video.

I live in the US and, yes, haven't heard of "Outside Edge." Are these episodes
on video available in US-compatible VHS?
I was also unaware she had a sketch show on UK TV. What kind of material did
she do--things in the style of Tracey Ullman or Carol Burnett? (Given "Whose
Line's" success in the States, I'm surprised Comedy Central hasn't picked up
"Josie," even for a limited run in a fringe air slot.)
Glad to see things going well for the Birmingham rose with the wonderful smile.
We'd enjoy seeing more of her on this side of the pond!

Outside Edge is based on a stage play. The first series was basically the plot of the play and it is that which is on video. It's about 6 episodes which can be seen as individual but also link together. The later series was/were not as good as they didn't have the depth and continuity of a play as it's basis. I don't think these are available on video. I've got the video I mentioned so I'll investigate if there is an NTSC version. I do have the facility to copy, but sadly only from NTSC to Pal, not vice versa :o( Outside Edge was the most popular sitcom on it's TV channel yet was rudely axed. I remember Josie saying in interviews how upset she was and didn't know why it was axed, and begged someone to buy it up at the last minute.

I only ever saw 1 episode of 'Josie', apparently it was badly received "like Emma's show" - 'Thompson' - to quote Jose. I think it was shown in the US, it was composed of sketches and singing featuring Paul Merton, Richard Vranch and others. I've just remembered I've got a really nice interview on video that she did a couple of years ago during her season with the RSC. Are you only interested in seeing her act, or would you be interested in a fairly indepth magazine interview that I've got. If you are, e-mail me as I tend to miss a lot of the messages in this newsgroup.

She's also done a couple of episodes of the TV prog. 'Paul Merton in Galton and Simpson's...' which could be shown in the US, but it's not that likely, neither is a comedy programme called 'Downwardly Mobile' which only lasted 1 series as it wasn't very good!

I would definitely be interested in that Josie Lawrence interview, and thanks
for the info on her other projects. I don't believe any of them have made it to
the U.S.
