Yes it is a great film, But I find it hard to see that it is by FAR the most
Beautiful. What about 'Jules et Jim' or 'Passion of Joan of Arc' for
example

What do you AMKer's think Kubrick would have thought of Fahrenheit 451 ???

I thought the film was a fabulous picture.... It somewhat reminded me of
the pessimist and very violent future presented in ACO..... The
desolation of death, the new technological world taken over society and
democracy..... Something similar to big brother.... :-)

Truffaut Rules !!!!!

I adored Day For Night, it was a remarkable sub- non-documentary/homage to
the art of film making......

The performances were quite interesting..... The realism presented, notably
by Truffaut himself, was a much more personal view of the MAN behind the
camera, the myth and name..... All his films have an essence of
autobiographical elements in them, whether they are actual or not in his
film directing career, it is an astonishing view of how intricate and very
troublesome a film in the making can be......

At first, without knowing ANYTHING about the film or the film maker, I was
totally shocked to see the cuts and cameras and set design of the film, I
thought it was either a documentary or a joke, but then I realized it was
the film itself.... Pretty clever....! :)

In another line, but still in French films, Elevator to the Gallows,
directed by Louis Malle was a FANTASTIC film.....!!!!!! The simplicity of
the scenario, even with the twists and turns, is mind blowing.....!

And Miles for music (even though it was improvised, sheer pure genius !!!!!
:-) The tension is masterfully given, with elements of surprising shocks
and how destined or rather undestined everything happens, superb..!

Les Mistons is certainly not very "good" but I think it's wonderful to
watch with the knowledge that this is Truffaut starting and learning as
a filmmaker and it has moments that truly reflect his ideals as an
artist that can still be seen in his last films.

And re: what started this thread -- I agree that 400 Blows is
beutiful... It is by far my favorite of his films.
