oh I know we have discussed this again,

but does anyone know why James Cameron had to be the one to draw Jacks
drawings? It just bugs me now that I know that when I see Rose looking thru
Jacks book..........(an old man really drew these, ok hes not OLD but you
know!!)

couldn't Cameron have spent a little money and gone out and found a young
artist in training and have him/her do the drawings?

just my gripe for the day! LOL

I suspect it was an ego thing. Yes, James Cameron does have an ego....a pretty
substantial one, from what I hear. :)

I agree that it probably was an ego thing, but that doesn't bother me. As an
artist, if I had the opportunity to showcase my work on such a large scale,
I'm sure that I would welcome the opportunity.
Take care. Tina.

Do you ever wonder if the french prostitute Cameron drew was actually Suzy Amis? It could be argued there's a certain resemblance.

I definitely think he could have gotten a better artist. He's not very good with Rose's face. The drawing of her looks like any old anonymous model. On the other hand, if I was the director, I would probably do it myself too. I think movies work best when the director involves himself in as many aspects of the movie as possible. Cameron wrote, directed, edited, filmed the underwater footage himself, and drew the pictures. I think he's very proud of his hard and deserves to be.

I disagree categorically with the opinion that the director should involve
himself in every aspect of the production. Really great directors are great
not because they are also the best screenwriters and film editors, but
because they can identify those talents in other people, tell them the game
plan, and throw them the ball.

Micromanagement such as Cameron's results in a variety of deficiencies, and
the quality of the drawings is emblematic of this problem. JC is an EFX
wonk, and a consummate master of that craft. But because he is, he thinks he
can do everything better than anyone else, and he's wrong.

And a rather stupid gripe at that. Who gives a crap who really drew the
picture?

They didn't use Leo's hands because he dosn't like his hands and didn't want
them to be shown close up on screen.

Maybe Cameron decided he could save a few bucks and draw the pics
himself? I thought they were pretty good.

OK, you have a good point there. But I guess I prefer moviemakers over the movies themselves. Most of the time at least. I'd go see a movie by James Cameron or David Fincher or George Lucas or Alex Proyas whether I'd heard anything about the movie or not. I just know I'll be in for a great ride. When I hear "a film by so&so" I want to see that person's creativity. But what you say makes a lot of sense. I personally just don't like delegating my creativity. If that makes me selfish or egotistical, well, I can live with that :)

How do you know that Cameron thinks this?
Just curious.

I thought they were pretty good, too. They were certainly good enough to have
been done by a 20-year-old kid with no formal training and to have been
remarked upon as "very good" by a 17-year-old girl who undoubtedly had low
expectations when she opened his portfolio.

I think the poster meant she had low expectations of JACK's work ;-)
