Just watched Titanic again, and maybe I'm dense cause I missed it the
first few times...In the beginning when Lovett's Asst. guy says he
traced Rose's background all the way to the 20's when she lived in
Chippewa Falls.....Did anyone notice that that was where Jack said he
was from? Forgive me if you have already discussed this..I missed it if
you did.

Actually, you are mistaken. I saw Titanic again after I read your message and
listened carefully. Lovett's assistant says that Rose had lived in Cedar
Rapids and a few seconds later mentions Cedar Rapids again.

Didn't he say the she worked as an actress in New York. Maybe you'rew
right, I'll check the script. You're right, Jack was from Chippewa
Falls.
Anyone here who lives there or has been there?

The screenplay floating round the net says she came from Cedar Rapids, but
Cameron may well have changed it when it was filmed.

I must try to remember to check next time I see the film.

They did not say where she worked or that she lived in Chippewa Falls.
Bodine says she "married some guy named Calvert and moved to Cedar Rapids"

One other note. Jack, while telling Rose about his childhood in Chippewa
Falls, says that his father took him ice fishing on Lake Wisota. Well, Lake
Wisota is man made and was not made until 1917. Five years after the Titanic
sank. Jack couldn't have gone ice fishing there.

Did you notice also that he says "but back then she went by Rose Dawson..."

Sorry about the mix-up but I could've sworn it said Chippewa
Falls...guess I was wrong.
On another note...has anyone who's seen the screener seen the slight
differences in some scenes? Like when Cal is asking Jack what made him
think he had the right to put his hands on Rose? In the theatre, his
tone is different. I am sure about this one! :)

Saw it again for the 4th time tonight. He says she married and went to Cedar
Rapids, not Chippewa Falls.

Did anyone think that Jack was merely lying to Rose (about the ice fishing)
to talk her out of jumping, and thus in a moment of thought with no time to
reflect he made it up.

If he was not a fictional character, that would be my argument.

It's Cedar Rapids.
"Look, I've already done the background on this woman, all the way back to the
20's when she was working as an actress, An actress, there's your first clue
Sherlock. Her name was Rose Dawson back then. Then she married a guy named
Calvert, they moved to Cedar Rapids, and she punches out a couple of kids. Now
Calvert's dead, and from what I hear Cedar Rapids is dead."-Bodine

That proves Jack never died.
He lived, moved to C/Falls, and commissioned the digging of the lake.

Of course Jack couldn't have gone ice fishing there but at the same time
Jack is fictitious and so is him ice fishing:o) There wasn't really a Jack
to do it:o)

Yes, this has been pointed out before, but I guess the people of Chippewa Falls
didn't care; they made Leonardo DiCaprio an honorary citizen and gave him a key
to the city.

That's what I thought, too, after seeing it for the 2nd time, but then I
thought, hey did Jack even come from Chippewa falls? I thought I was the
only one who noticed it and that I was mistaken, but I'm not!

Helloooooo.....did anyone pay attention????
The reason they traced her back there in the 20's was because when she got
off the
ship, that's where she, with her new alias Rose Dawson, went to start her
life over.
She knew that's where Jack was from and she assuredly wanted to be near him,
in
a sense. Notice the pictures old Rose had of herself? Riding a horse "like
a man"?
Even flying a plane.(Come JOSEPHINE, hint hint) She went to Chippawa Falls
and
pursued all the things she and Jack talked about doing together.
sniff,sniff.

Um, ok, you guys....go see the movie one more time. Jack came from Chippawa
Falls. Rose was traced to Cedar Rapids by the crew member who was with Lovett.
He jokes that Mr. Calvert is dead, and as far as he knows, Cedar Rapids is
dead. (My apologies to the inhabitants of Cedar Rapids.) :)

about... but now I get it.

Actually, the picture of her riding the horse was supposed to be the pier at
Santa Monica. And the head shot was when she was a Hollywood starlet. Not sure
about the plane. Anyway, here's a direct quote from the script.

[[[[ BODINE

She says she's Rose DeWitt Bukater, right? Rose DeWitt Bukater died on the
Titanic. At the age of 17. If she'd've lived, she'd be over a hundred now.

LOVETT

A hundred and one next month.

BODINE

Okay, so she's a very old --- liar. I traced her as far back as the 20's... she
was working as an actress in L.A. An actress. Her name was Rose Dawson. Then
she married a guy named Calvert, moved to Cedar Rapids, had two kids. Now
Calvert's dead, and from what I've heard Cedar Rapids is dead.]]]]

So...Rose lived in Cedar Rapids. Not Chippewa Falls. And she went to Cedar
Rapids after trying her hand at Hollywood. I'm not sure what she did between
the sinking and Hollywood. They don't account for those 8 years.
