Oh sure. We ALL love those plastic, silicon filled, airheaded models
that wind up in movies like Barb Wire. They're SOOOOO believable. ;-)

In early 1912 (or before that), woman like Rose is consider well grown
and beautiful ! so it IS belivable.

Besides this there are many other reasons why she wouldn't be skinny. She
was young at 18 - many people still have puppy fat at this age.
She was rich and could afford to eat, and she was indulgent - her character
was the type to do what she wanted (probably to a lesser extent before the
sinking - but it was only food).

And to all those guys out there who are saying Kate Winslett is fat - If you
want a girl who is straight up and down with nu curves - why don't you just
admit to yourself you are gay. Men are straight up and down so find
yourself one.

Ok, wait a sec. I just don't understand this whole Rose/Kate is fat crap.
She's what - 5'7-5'8 or so. She looks like she weighs about 110lbs. How,
pray tell, is that fat. She doesn't look fat - she's trim waisted and
narrow hipped. This has nothing to do with the preferences of an era. If
so, she'd have been about 150lbs for her height.

This is just getting dumb now.

Excuse me, but I don't think YOUR personal preferences decide whether a movie
is believable or not. That's the way Kate actually looks, and I'm very
surprised some of the people here can't appreciate it. She looked like a DREAM
to me.

I disagree.. The athletic look that is considered sex today is a recent
phenomina. Back at the turn of the century (and earlier) the full figured look
was the "in" look. Kate Winslet has just that look for the period that the
events take place.

I read on one of the Titanic web sites that Leonardo DiCaprio is six feet
tall. If so, that would make Kate Winslet about 5'6-5'7. I am about 5'6 and
I am built along the same lines as Kate, which would make her about 115-120
lbs. THAT IS NOT FAT! I think she has a beautiful figure.I wish people
would leave her alone!
There! I've vented enough for one day. Now to listen to the soundtrack and
cry my eyes out ;-)

If the camera adds 10 pounds as they say, I'd think it's a stretch to call
Winslet even full-figured. I'd say she looks pretty NORMAL. Unlike some
who look like bones with a thin covering of skin. Women die everyday
trying to live up to society's idea of "thin". So do men for that matter.

Nevermind. The best approach to the "Kate/Rose is FAT" posts is to ignore
them. They are made by people who only want to make others angry, and
shouldn't be taken seriously--obviously they can't see beyond physical
appearances, more's the pity. Little sneering sneaksbies--trolling for
responses, then they sit back and watch the fun.

Alright...get over it...Kate is not 5'6'' for that matter, plus all you people
have to admit she looked a little bit chubby in her dresses in Titanic, and
especially on the Golden Globe awards. I'll give it to myself that she IS NOT
FAT, BUT, in the drawing scene, I noticed her stomach is relatively flat, but
when she wore the dresses she was rather large.

I agree that she's not fat. But she is by no means 110lbs. You must be
practicing vicarious reverse anorexia. She looks like she could be 135lb
or more.

Rose was far from fat according to the standards of her time! In that
way, people were more sensible than they are today.

We need to get over this idea that women need to be anorexic!

Rose isn't FAT. Who decides what fat is and what isn't anyway. People
shouldn't be so interested in the exterior. Did you take a good look at the
nude scene? I don't think so, because you would've seen that there isn't an
ounce of excess fat on her body. She is a beautiful woman, with a body that
suits her perfectly.

No, she isn't fat. She just doesn't conform to the current "anorexic waif"
fashion look. Which, by the way, would not be relevant to the time period of the
movie.
By today's standards, Marilyn Monroe was "fat".
IMHO, the "look" of that time was towards Rubenesque (ie. larger rounded
figures). If anything, Rose should have been a little bit bigger...
