I happen to live in Chippewa Falls, WI which is, of course, Jack Dawson's
hometown in Titanic. The two references in the movie have been discussed
a lot around town here since the movie came out. The biggest thing that
everyone around here talks about, of course, is the slight inaccuracy
(which probably no one outside of Chippewa Falls would know).

In the "Rose attempts suicide" scene, Jack talks about falling through
the ice on Lake Wissota and nearly freezing to death. Lake Wissota is a
man-made lake here that was made in *1917*. The Titanic sank in 1912 of
course, hence the discrepancy.

I have no real problem with that. Its pretty minor and hardly anyone
notices it, like I said. My real question is: for what reason did James
Cameron chose Chippewa Falls? No one I've talked to around here seems to
really know. My Dad did say he saw Cameron on TV being interviewed
wearing a Chippewa Falls sweatshirt or t-shirt.

By the way, I absolutely loved the movie. Just saw it for the 3rd time
today. Anyone with info on the Chippewa Falls connection please email me

James Cameron moved from his birthplace (1954) of Kapuskasing, Ontario
to Chippewa, Ontario at an early age, and then moved to the US in 1971.

Chippewa is a few miles from Niagara Falls, Ontario!

If you check out the T-shirt it says "Chippewa" in big letters
and then "near the Falls" (or something to that effect) underneath.

It does not say Chippewa Falls!

Jack had to be from the US (no-one in movies is *ever* from Canada!:-)
and Chippewa Falls, WI, was chosen.

Oops!

Cameron lived in Chippawa, Ontario, near Niagara Falls, Ontario.
^
The T-shirt Cameron wears in the making of TV film indeed says

above the falls
C H I P P A W A
^

So Chippewa Falls was chosen as a northern US town where they would
have ice fishing, crucial to the plot, but it was chosen because
of Cameron's home town link.

I am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and I wonder *WHY* the above statement is
so true? What does the movie-going public fear about Canadians? Surely you
can't think that we live in igloos, etc?
