Hey all you fans of Tim Burton- I saw a JohnWaters' feature today on that new
entertainment site- he's so cool- I think their styles are similar, what do
you all thuink??

Pink Flamingos: The main characters are outsiders because they are serial
killers and are hiding out.
Edward Scissorhands: The main character is gentle, and is only an outsider
because he is misunderstood.
Mondo Trasho/Polyester: The person playing the main character IS a transvestite,
the character is not (she is female).
Ed Wood: The person playing the main character is not a transvestite, the
character is.
Almost every Roger Waters movie: Somebody's dream is to be famous.
Ed Wood: His dream is to be famous.
The Simpsons: Marge's hair (closer).
Mars Attacks: Martian spy girl's hair.
I think that similarities between Waters and Burton are coincidental. Don't get
me wrong, I love both film makers, and I think that they share a vision of
film-making and "the system", but in style and approach they are most different.
I think that the greatest similarity between them is that they are both
visionaries who approach their view of the world through film-making in very
unorthodox ways. I guess that's probably why I think that most Burton fans would
also like (or do like) Roger Waters.

Someone obviously has NOT read the JOHN Waters book "Shock Value." Divine
HATED being in drag, and around the time "Hairspray" was released he had
been ready to get on the show "Married with Childern" and play uncle Otto.
He died before the audition. He was NOT a drag queen, transvestite,
whatever. In fact, he called his female outfits his "work clothes."

famous, explain Serial Mom, Cry Baby, Hairspray, Polyester, Mondo Trasho,
and Desperate Living. Only three of his films have that theme.

but he eventually becomes accepted. And although Edward is eventually outcast
again, the characters in "Pink Flamingos" are too bizarre to evenbe recognized
as anything to society, much less outsiders. To be outsiders, a group would
have to have some contact with a normal member of society. I can't think of
one character in "Pink Flamingos" that I would consider normal.

Thanks Fosl. Actually I was the one who made the Waters mistake. Thanks for
sticking up for me. I didn't even respond to HumanGoing because he apparently is
one of the overblown "intellectuals" who knows everything about everyone (except
who Roger Waters is), and who we dare not make a mistake in front of. I was just
trying to make conversation. Instead I get insulted. Thanks for being normal.

Tucker and Tim Burton? I think that it would be great to see the two come
together and make a film. And who here agrees that Tim should have directed
