I am new to this news group and the other day I read where someone
stated that Tiger Rose (1929) with Rin Tin Tin was somewhere. Ucla and
in Wisconsin. That message is gone from my mail box so I cant remember
what the info was. I would like to try to find this movie so if someone
could let me know I would appreciate it. Again I am new to this so
thanks for your patience. Thanks, Dan

I posted that info that a 16mm print of Tiger Rose is at U. Wisconsin-Madison.
I'm not aware that UCLA has a print.

Dan,
If you ever want to search for an old news posting, go to
http://www.deja.com and search alt.movies.silent. Some of the major
search engines will also allow you to search usenet. Yahoo is at

Hi. Did someone say that the sound was on film at UCLA? Would you know what has
to be done to get copies made? Thanks, Dan

Are you trying to say they are not cooperative?? I have heard that from another
person. I have a friend who has a daughter that goes to school out there and am
going to ask him if its there. Or, maybe she knows someone. He's on vacation but will
be home in a week. You never know. Dan PS, do you have anything to do with the
Vitaphone Project?

of TIGER ROSE I would love to see it.

There are old Kodascope originals of TIGER ROSE in collector hands, and I would
be surprised if someone hasn't done a video on it by now. I've seen it and it
isn't all that great.

TIGER ROSE was made by Warner Bros. in 1923
and 1929. The Kodascope Libraries released the
1923 version- I wasn't aware that the 1929 version
(with Monte Blue and Lupe Velez) survives.

The 1929 Version of Tiger Rose survives at least in 16mm but only as a mute version
of the talkie. UCLA has the Vitaphone disks, and there has bee at least some talk
about marrying the materials, but nothing has hapened so far.

Hi. Is this Tiger Rose you saw the 1929 with Rin Tin Tin in it? Thanks, Dan

I am really looking for the 1929 movie as it stars Rin Tin Tin. I don't know anything
about the earlier one. Don't even know for sure if the information I read is
accurate. But, someone had asked about finding some of Warner's 1929 movies and Tiger
Rose was one. Someone else answered that they thought UCLA had the voice and U.
Wisconsin had the film. Now I searched UCLA's list on the net and found the 1923
version as listed, not the 1929. So I don't know if I am chasing absolutely nothing.
I may have someone that has some inside influence at UCLA and may be able to get the
sound, so I just need the accurate info which I haven't been able to verify so far.
So that's it in a nut shell. This searching stuff is all new to me and gets very
confusing and stressful so I don't know what I am going to do yet. Thanks fore the
reply anyway. Dan

David is correct in saying that the Kodascope is of the 1923 and that's what I
have seen, not the 1929. However the 1929 also does exist, with picture only
at Univ. Wisconsin-Madison, and UCLA has the sound disks, so we can hope that
someone eventually puts these two together.

I think I may have an in at UCLA and I am going to try to get copies of the sound
discs I am told its very tough to get them to cooperate but we will see. Then I will
see if I can get a copy from U Wisconsin whom I am told is easier to work with. Who
knows. Anything is possible.

I think you have this exactly reversed. If UCLA got this as a studio deposit
from Warners, then you are plum out of luck. Likewise, Univ. Wisconsin isn't
going to run you off a copy either since this came to them as part of a studio
package. I believe (but am not positive) that this is still under copyright.

Oh no, I dont like the sounds of that. Why bother giveing them to someone if they
cant share it with others who have interest in these early films. I was also told
that when copyrights run out that if they havent been renewed with in 5 years they
are public domain. Do you know if this is correct? Dan

Copyrights run out when they are not renewed. However, most of the films you
are talking about were renewed and are now protected for 95 years after
copyright date. So if TIGER ROSE was renewed (I believe it was), it won't go
into the public domain until 2024.
