Remember a while back when it was reported that Volker Engel had told
people that the new Godzilla would have "atomic breath"? Well, G-Fan
just reported the rest of the story!

This article just appeared in the latest issue:

Fans win one for the Big G

"Fan pressure has caused TriStar to restore Godzilla's trademark weapon,
his atomic oral ray, according to the films executive producer, Bill
Fay. Mr. Fay managed to electrify a crowd attending a special Godzilla
presentation at the recent Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction
Convention by announcing that [that] Centropolis ... has done away with
Godzilla's proposed ‘power puff.' On behalf of the studio, Mr. Fay
assured the crowd that Centropolis has kept ‘Godzilla's fiery breath.'

"Hollywood insiders have told G-FAN that it was fan outrage that turned
the tide. ‘Centropolis was unprepared for the hostility that greeted
their changes to Godzilla,' said one. ‘This is their way of trying to
defuse the situation.'

"It was learned that Godzilla will be seventy meters tall and though it
is a ferocious beast, the monster should not be regarded as something
evil. Instead, Godzilla's behavior will mimic that of a creature trying
to survive in nature.'"

Cool, huh?

Great news, Barry. Thank you. My hot/cold/hot relationship with this
production warms once again

Gee, and I wonder who broke that story first :-) Of I must thank my adoring
fan Ghidorah who was at the convention and wrote a report about it for
Godzilla News.

WOO HOO!! Ok, that's it. Count 'em: big, spines, and atomic ray breath.
As long as it knocks down buildings its godzilla enough for me. :)

BTW, after reading the EON interview, who wants to bet D&E had this in
mind all along and spread rumors about the "power breath" just get us all
stirred up?

You know, if they could actually pull this part off, it could actually make
for an interesting film.

I thought I reported this to this group two months ago.

I doubt it. Centropolis is many things, but gutsy isn't one of them. Sure,
giving out misleading information in order to give us a surprise is a cool
concept, but it's a risk. I can honestly say I believe that D&E changed the
power breath back to the atomic breath because of fan response, which if it's
true says alot in favor of they're integrity.

Wow, there's a load off my mind. The question is, how will they accomodate the
change in power?

Centropolis give out misleading information? I hardly believe that.

*wipes the excess sarcasm off of his chin*

They lied about fake designs to keep us guessing, so why not lie about
the atmoic breath too?

Agreed. No offense to Aug^H^H^H the Godzilla purists
out there, but a Godzilla that did a little more than
just tromp forward might just make things fun.

Imagine Godzilla actually running something down
after ambushing it by waiting around a corner. Or
chasing it down after it launced an unsuccessful
attack. That sounds like fun to me :)

Lying about the fake designs was, at the time, something that helped them by
keeping rabid Godzilla purists, (I'm struggling not to name anyone in
particular,) off they're backs until Movie Time. It kept they're guessing-game
going and probably spared them alot of production greif. "Inventing" a story
about a lame power-breath weapon would've done exactly the opposite, it got
people upset and suspicious about them.

I think G-Fan got handed a bogus release, or didn't check their facts. I
can't imagine how, at the stage they were in when Centropolis supposedly
announced this information, a major addition like that could have been made.

I hope I'm wrong.
