I took a look at them last night, Genevieve. They are truly beautiful
paintings. They are also obviously a new collection, as none of them
are in my copy of Christiane's book. I hope this means a new book of
paintings is in the works.

These are some truly amazing paintings...as Boaz noted a few weeks ago, SK was
most definitely not the only artist in the Kubrick family. Hopefully, since
apparently these paintings were not included in Mrs. Kubrick's book that was
released several years ago, we might be looking forward to a sequel soon...

Actually a couple of the online paintings are in her book. These
paintings are only a small sample of her work.
And when you get her book, you'll see the full range of her work.

Gen is correct. I double checked my copy of the book, and a few of the
paintings in the gallery are also there.
As for any sequel, I'm only assuming. I have no idea what is involved
to put together a book like that, so I don't know if anything at all is
in the works.

Flowers and Staffordshire China." Can anyone find Stanley Kubrick in

Yes, CK's paintings are breathtaking. The one of SK (as Napoleon no
less!) was rather amusing. I found most startling was the stark
contrast between the beautiful patterns in the floral and china
arrangements and the images of the gulf war beamed in over the TV. In
general I really like her sometimes complex use of patterns,
composition, color, and humour. I'd have to injest them longer before
I could say much more, though.

Thanks for writing, Steven. Yes, wasn't that [Napoleon] one clever? I
also liked the one with the Turcoman-like table cloth and television
beaming back firework images of the Gulf War... All and all, they are
very "generous" paintings as one critic has noted in the introduction to
her book from the early 1990s, which I recommend.

Did you notice how the patterns of fire on TV were somewhat reflective
of the flowers on the table? A nice touch. Also, unless I'm mistaken,
is not the teacup on the lower left in the other painting with this
theme a portrait of G. Bush? Ha. I love CK's florals. Her control
over colour, composition, and perspective is quite something. I don't
know why, but the portrait of SK reminds me of one of the Beatles in
Yellow Submarine. I suspect that that's just me, though. Ha again.

Oh, yes, the paintings! Yes, I saw the update. Who is this Paula, and
why am I even asking?
I liked the small orange trees as well. The details of the bowls or
pots that hold the plants are incredible. They remind me of the
detailed paintings the Japanese do on porcelain. Artwork within
artwork. The poppies along the road remind me of the poppies one can
see in the spring near Palm Springs. Very beautiful.
There is so much to talk about regarding these paintings, their
subjects, colors, textures, the little images within the bigger
images. After being subjected to "modern art masterpieces" over the
years, it is refreshing to see Christiane Kubrick's paintings getting
their due.

I like the orange trees as well - against the backdrop of snow...
And say, what about the painting with the helicopters? I would think
this group would have a comment or two about that painting.

Did anyone notice that in both the photo of Stanley
(http://www.eyeswideshut.com/ck/ck.htm) and the photo of Christiane
(http://www.christianekubrick.net/) they are looking ahead from over the top
of the rim of their glasses (Nicole did this when she was staring at Tom
from the kitchen table in EWS). If you look at both photos it's as if they
were staring at each other from across the room.
Also, all copies of Christiane's book are signed. I know what I'm asking
Santa for this year.

I just had a chance to take a look at the gallery section on CK's web page...
Mrs. Kubrick is obviously an incredibly gifted painter. This page really shows
the range of her style -- from the sort of impressionistic look of "View from
the Kitchen in Spring" and "Gateposts with Belladonna" to the more detailed,
realistic renderings of "Stanley" and "Summers Day." "Stanley," in particular,
is one of my favorites and I found it to be very moving in a way. Can't wait
for my copy of her book...

No...although I'm almost positive that SK is featured in "Ballynatray
Rehearsals in the Rain." Anyone else see this?
