Is this correct?
Another refernce I have Patrick Humphries' _The Films of Alfred
Hitchcock_ states----
"Cary Grant was keen to have Sophia Loren playing Eve. Hitchcock was
hoping that his beloved Grace Kelly could be lured back to the
screen."
While she certainly oozes sexuality, Sophia
Loren does not fit my idea of a Hitchcock leading lady.
Was this casting -
(1)Alfred Hitchcock's 2nd choice?
(2) Suggested/forced upon him by the studios?
(3) A concession made to Grant because of his apparent obsession with
her?
Any additional information and references about this situation
will be appreciated.
Now that I think about it, Sophia Loren certainly would have been
interesting as the female lead in Vertigo. It would ruin the picture
as we know it, but perhaps would have made a different masterpiece.

==in a book on hitchcock movies, it was stated that hitch had
asked Eve Marie Saint to star in Rear Window, but she was engaged
in 'On The Waterfront'. so he got Grace Kelly. for NBNW, I think
i read AH had someone else in mind (not Eve Marie Saint), but
she eventually got the part.
I'll check the book once again.
BTW: today my favourites are: Frenzy, The Lady Vanishes,
Notorius, Rebecca and The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934)
==oops, i apologize, did not read carefully.
==indeed it is in the book by Patrick Humphries.
==I have it in front of me now.
==In my opinion Sofia would not be my choice.
==Grace Kelly would have fitted nicely.
Sofia Loren was cast well in that somewhat comic
Thriller with Gregory Peck (Title alludes me at the moment).
'Arabesque'.
