TV episode of what? There is no Hitchcock tv show bearing that title. If you
mean "Man from the South"--a classic AH Presents episode directed by Norman
Lloyd--I don't believe it is.

Is this based on the Roald Dahl story of the same name? And if so, was
it both an AH Presents episode *and* a "Tales of the Unexpected"
episode, or am I getting confused again?

"an optimist is a guy/ that has never had/ much experience"
Yes, it was based on a story by Roald Dahl and features Steve McQueen and Peter
Lorre. Great show. (And I believe it was remade when the Hitchcock series was
revived a few years ago.)

The Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode, "Man From the South,"
was based on a story by Roald Dahl. It is available on the
VHS video, "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" released by GoodTimes
Home Video. The GoodTimes product number is 05-04088.
They make two tapes with this same name, so make sure you
get the right one.

Possibly you are referring to the popular film of the 1960's called
"That Man From Rio" which starred Jean-Paul Belmondo.
I can't recall the director's name, but it was an amusing sendup of
James Bond, filmed in French, and shot primarily in the new (then)
Brazilian capitol of Brasilia.
The co-star was Francoise Dorleac, the real-life sister of Catherine
Deneuve. Francoise was equally beautiful, and perhaps as promising an
actress, as her sister. However, she, was killed in a car-wreck shortly
after the filming of "Rio.
I hope I have got all this right.
I haven't thought of this film in many years.
