Doreen Lang -- an actress perhaps best remembered as the hysterical mother in
the Tides restaurant scene in THE BIRDS -- died last Wednesday of cancer at 81.
Lang was a New Zealand-born, London-trained actress appearing in live
television and on Broadway when Alfred Hitchcock brought her to Hollywood for
her film debut in 1956's THE WRONG MAN (as Ann James). She also appeared in
NORTH BY NORTHWEST (as Maggie) and in his TV series.
She was active as an actress as recently as 1996 in TV's PICKET FENCES.

The wonderful actress who played Miriam Haines in STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, Laura
Elliot, has reemerged, and you can read all about her fascinating experiences
working with Hitchcock and her fellow actors on this classic film in the April
27 posting on The 'MacGuffin' Web site:
http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~muffin/news-home_c.html

Elliot's Miriam is one of the most fascinating characters in the Hitchcock
cannon. She was the ultimate Bad Girl, and her situation of being the unwanted
pregnant wife who threatens the promising new life of her husband, is almost
exactly the same situation that Shelly Winters character found herself in
George Steven's great PLACE IN THE SUN. Interestingly, both films were made in
1951 and Laura Elliot appeared in both.

The reason that Laura had disappeared form sight was that she resumed her real
name Kasey
Rogers when she started her televison career, playing Louise Tate on
'Bewitched'and Julie Anderson on 'Peyton Place.'

Because of the name change, most fans now know her only as Kasey Rogers, and
Laura Elliot autographs are extremely rare. However, during the Hitchcock
Centennial, Kasey would like to let all Hitchcock fans know that she would be
delighted to hear from them, and would be interested in participating in any
of the upcoming Hitchcock Centennial events. She is even willing to sign
autographs as Laura Elliot on a 8x10 glossy from STRANGERS for a very
reasonable price. Those wishing to contact Laura Elliot/Kasey Rogers can
reach her at the e-mail address: mark...@aol.com
