Why is Jimmy Stewart driving in the left hand side of the road in the two
scenes, where he is going down to the Mission with Madelaine/Judy (chapters
18 and 32, remastered dvd), when he is driving in the right hand side in the
other driving scenes?

Highway 101 was--and is--a dvivided highway. Two lanes either way with
eucalyptus trees along the center.
