he stays on his side of the water.

European filmmakers are bored with American filmmakers
coming to their countries and trying to outdo them on their
turf.

They want to see the unflinching American experience.

David Lynch's work reflects techniques of American artists.

Blue Velvet could be the activity in the dark areas
of Edward Hopper's paintings.

This sort of ignores that Lynch has directed many, many commercials
overseas and filmed most of his feature film Inland Empire in Poland.
