I am deeply upset that for months the put hype around this movie, not
telling people if it was real or fictional just to get you into it. I would
have been interested in it more if they would have said it was fictional
from the beginning instead of doing all this publicity for it on sci-fi. I
honestly thought it was a true story to begin with then I started checking
out sites and found it to be just another (wanna-be)scary movie, And for
that I am not gonna spend my money on a movie that makes you think it's real
then all of a sudden tells you its fictional. MY MONEY IS GOING ON '' DEEP
BLUE SEA".

Good God you're an idiot. I saw it, and I knew it was fiction
beforehand. I suspect that even the Sundance crowd, who saw it before
anyone, knew it was fiction.

The makers of the film, Artisan, Haxan and others never said that it
was true. They gave the impression that it was, but they've never come
out and said 'this is a true story.' The same could be said of the
Star Wars movies. Do you believe that those are true? They're not.

Now, if you want to go waste your cash on a bad Jaws-type movie, feel
free. Blair-Witch is certainly a better film that that piece of
Hollywood trash. And oh, by the way, 'Deep Blue Sea' is not a true
story either.

Great, go see the Smart Shark. Unfortunately there isnt enough fanaticism in
that movie to start its own newsgroup yet... but you could start one! I bet
that movie's great!

Star Wars TPM and Jurassic Park are two that immediately come to mind.

All the hype surrounding this movie is suposed to look like it's real. That
is the basis of all the ads, websites, and specials. They want you to look
at these things and wonder if they could be true. It has certainly recieved
a lot of attention! I just saw it last night, and on the drive home I
couldn't help but think to myself, "that could have happened!"

It helped that the actors were present after the Sundance showing. And then
there's all those interviews, reviews, and articles about the movie that say
that it's fiction...

Really, the only things that pretend the movie's factual is -- surprise,
surprise -- the pure marketing stuff.

Yes, yes, I follow the strategy. But the snag is, if I now call up Mr.
Tippifield and say to him "Look here, I've got a 45 year old chartered
accountant with me who wants to become a lion tamer", his first
question is *not* going to be - "Does he have his own hat?".

He's going to ask what sort of experience you've had with lions.

Bob Fenster, the film critic for the Arizona Republic, is notorious for
writing reliably awful movie reviews. If he hates it, it's probably good;
if he likes it, it probably sucks. He says "Deep Blue Sea" is better than
"Jaws." Enjoy!

You mean Star Wars isn't true? How could you say that, you bastard!!! And
I suppose there was no Indiana Jones and that the lost ark of the covenant
isn't locked away in some U.S. government warehouse.

Kidding aside, when I was twelve I saw "The Exorcist" (had a friend of
the family's that repaired films then showed them in his garage. I didn't
do something as original as sneak in a theater). I never thought another
movie would ever spook me again.

Now I'm 37 and Blair Witch Project gave me chills, even just thinking about
it the next day. But movies, like all art forms, are subject to taste and
some people aren't going to like it. I noticed a big line when I left the
theater for "Runaway Bride". That's exactly where those people should be,
in the Runaway Bride line. Sleep tight

Well, I guess if you were a moron, you would think it was real. Sweet
Fancy Moses, man. If that actually happened, don't you think you would
have heard about it back in 1995 or so when they supposedly found the
backpacks? Wouldn't it have made headlines the world over? Don't be so
damned gullible and naive and you won't be so dissapointed. "Deep Blue
Sea" looks like the stupidest fucking movie of the summer.

I was looking forward to the movie cause I am very interested in witchcraft.
When they started talking about the BWP on the sci-fi channel they called it
a documentary. WELL THAT IS NOT TRUE. They did that to lure people in, I
would like to see it but I am not gonna spend the extra money to see a
movie that was put out as true and ended up false. I would feel the same way
about DEEP BLUE SEA. IF they started it out like a TRUE story then I would
feel the same.I will wait for SCI-FI to show the film.

Why aren't people upset that the Deep Blue Sea marketers aren't
telling people whether or not the film is real. Just like BWP, DBS has
nothing in the previews to indicate it isn't real. Hmm.... So what
people are really doing here is faulting BWP for having a believable
story. Poor BWP - damned if it does and damned if it doesn't.

Well, I shouldn't be surprised that you of all people would rather
watch 'Deep Blue Sea' than Blair-Witch. After all, you enjoy spending
time in 'alt.culture.underwear', among other 'choice' newsgroups.

Why did that make you think it was real?
No one has said it was...it was simply creative brilliance...very original.
Unlike ANOTHER 'monster kills the gang' crapfest like DBS from Hollywood...

I take it you are still on drugs, cause if you cannot understand what I
said, then looks like your the IDIOT.
I do not condone a movie that comes off as a true story just to get viewers
to watch it, then when it has all these people interested in it you find out
it is real, evidentally, you don't get into witchcraft like I do. I
understood it at the beginning to be a true documentary movie, then " BAM"
you find out it is nothing but a fake.

Damn bartender! It's been what 2..3 days now and you're still bitching about
if the Sci-Fi channel called it a documentary? Give it up man it's not that
damn serious. First of all you're a damn fool for thinking it was a real
event. Like someone said earlier if such a thing had happened don't you
think you would remember it? I mean something like that would've been big
news all over the country if not the world if it had actually happened. Hell
Hollywood would have had 2 made for tv movies out within six months of the
tape being found and a studio movie within the year. You're coming off as a
stupid fuck. Or maybe a sick fuck seeing that if the movie was real you'd
have no problem going to see it to revel in peoples deaths. I vote for
stupid fuck.

Nor are the creators of DEEP BLUE SEA setting per-screen records that outdo
STAR WARS on their first weekend in major release. Just an observation. I
say fucking bravo for the hype, it was a brilliant plan that worked. More

But I'm not the one who fell so hard for the movie's media blitz/hype that I
thought it was real, then felt like a fucking fool when I found out how damn
dumb I was, then tried to cover my ass by claiming I was duped by the movie
makers, therefore I won't be spending my money on this movie. Instead I'll
go see a movie about genius bionic sharks.

No. What I meant to say is you would have said you were there at the live
taping just to get your view across.

What the conversation has consisted of is the show they put on the SCI-FI
channel. They did in fact call it a documentary when they were advertising
it to be shown. But of course Kevin must have the hole SCI-FI on tape. I
don't think so.

Why are you shouting son? Are you that upset with Kevin and me? Damn son
you're easy to piss off aren't you? You're not going to last long on usenet
with that kind of attitude. You're gonna have a stroke. Relax. Get up from
the computer, walk around a bit and take a few deep breaths.... There we go.
You feel better don't you? I knew you would. Now sit back down at your
computer and try to participate in this ng in a nice and calm manner.

Aaaaaaah, but I DO...commercials and all ( Iwasnt home to edit...I Hate wasting
tape like that, normally...but since I have no 'timer'
on my ancient VCR, I had to start it two hrs early...and before
the Special started, I DID in fact capture a few 'coming up next'
promo spots...and I gotta say, Bartender my man...NOT ONE
refered to it as a REAL documentary...
Actual quotes included...
"Behind the scenes..."
"The story behind the story"
"Learn the legend..."
But never was the word DOCUMENTARY mentioned...sorry...;)
Like I said, lets just drop this whole ridiculous thread and go on our
merry ways, ok?
(just dont take a path thru the woods on your way out...you
might not believe in the Blair Witch, my friend....but...
She believes in YOU....;)
Peace...

out calling them names then maybe the hole thing would be dropped. You all
make me laugh with your one-side attitude.

I've got the trailers promoting the Sci-Fi channel special on the
Blair Witch Project on tape. They never said it was a documentary.
How many more people have to tell you they have proof of this before
you realize that your memory of the event is flawed? Tape doesn't
lie.

Oh and another thing. I have seen both "Deep Blue Sea" and "The Blair
Witch Project". Deep Blue Sea is a typical Hollywood special effects
movie that is good for a few cheap entertainment thrills. The Blair
Witch Project is a brilliant film which will long be remembered and
imitated for years to come. Deep Blue Sea will be forgotten by the
fall.

As I have stated all along, I really don't care how many of you believe me
or not, I know what I heard them say and so did my boyfriend. We were
watching sliders when they aired the first commercial and they said
"DOCUMENTARY". As I said before, I take it you have the entire SCI-FI
channel recorded from the very first promo? I don't think so.

I'm all for people having their own opinions. I'm still waiting for you to
show me where I said that people who have opinions other than mine are
wrong. And I'll be waiting a long time because you can't show where I said
so. My problems with you is that your reason for not seeing the movie seem
stupid to me and that you believed the movie was real. I'm not the one
yelling at people, you are.

Not as confused as you. You are so into the film you want to just believe
what you want to instead of what they said. As a matter of fact they did the
same thing agian tonite on SCI-FI during ''NIGHT OF THE COMET".

This is your quote not mine so in other words your saying that since I heard
them call it a documentary then I am a fool. Hmmm, go figure on that one,
calling someone a name is just the same as not letting them have an opinion.
