Hi All,
Any comments on the D50? Got it as a Xmas present but I
haven't found it on the Mongoose page or any other bike sites.
Looks cool and rides fairly well but I would like to hear from
this group.

Thanks
Joe

I saw the Mongoose offered at Costo, and it got me in the mood to get
a Mountain Bike. So I thought I'd go around town, see if anyone was
offering a better deal. Imagine my surprise when not only did I NOT
find any other Mongoose bikes in town, but I got negative feedback by
100% of the bike shops about Mongoose bikes.
It seems that their quality has reached an all-time low, Mongoose is
now selling to chain stores (like Costo, Price Club, WalMart), and
also that there is no warranty for the bike at all.

After hearing that, I asked for advice from this newsgroup, and all
I've received so far has been negative. I used to own a Mongoose BMX
when I was younger, and was surprised to see this much negative
feedback on a bike company that I used to think ROCKED! However,
based all of the info I've gathered (none of it from Mongoose owners,
however) I'm probably not going to buy a Mongoose. I'm kind of sad,
because I have very fond memories of my old bike.

Should you people who've responded to this thread ride your Mongoose
bikes, please let me know what you think about them. While I'm not
buying one now, I am still very much interested in them. Let me know
what you think about the ride. If you know anything about components,
inform me about them as well. I've been told that if you buy a
Mongoose from a chain store, you should take it to a bike shop
immediately for a tune up. ???

Thanks,
David

I have a Mongoose Amp. FS. I have had this bike for 2 years, 3000 miles and
going, I have raced this bike and put it through hell and back. I have
tryed to break it so I could get a new one, but I have yet to do so. I got
it at a my LBS though I wouldnt buy a bike from a Wal-mart or Kmart, what
ever. I dont know what Mongoose is up to they have their DH team Racing
Intense Frames with Mongoose painted on the frame and Intense on the swing
arm. My Next Bike will be a Intense.

The MGX line and the Mongoose line are two entirely different things.
The MGX is much closer to the roadmaster line (also owned by mongoose's
parent company, Brunswick) and quality wise is similar as well. Many of
the parts spec'ed on them are TD-pro...a very cheesy low cost alternative
to shimano. If the MGX bikes have any shimano on them, it is usually the
very bottom of the line stuff. The MGX line came into being because of
brunswick's desire for another brand to carry and they are including the
mongoose name on it in order to sell it. For the most part I'de
recommend steering away from any MGX bikes.
Mongoose bikes, on the other hand, are still quality bikes. They are
still spec'ing shimano, avid, grip shift and other reliable components on
them, resulting in a bike which is as good as the compitition for the
price points they are going for. This year they are actually getting
into titanium frames, and have exclusively hired Sandvik to produce them
for them (one of the 3 big ti-frame builders)
As far as saying that mongoose is a crap bike because they are
selling to mass retailers....that's bull....they're still the same
quality bikes they have been making for years. The bikes they are
selling to walmart and other wholesale places are the MGX's (i.e.
roadmaster/huffy clones) and very bottom of the line BMX stuff. (below
$200 or so for the most part) It might be a lame attempt by them to make
more money, but it doesn't mean the quality of the product is any lower.
(for now at least...who knows in the future)

Well, I'm glad to finally hear something good about Mongoose - I was
afraid the whole company had gone to pot.
