I have not owned a bike for almost 25yrs. Kids/college/2 jobs/not enough
$$$$ etc....Well it's almost my time. I have ridden a RoadStar and Fatboy. I
like the RS. It handles better, more power, I think Yamaha's warranty is
better than HD and so is the reliability. I'm not into working on a bike I
want to ride again.
Questions:
1) I need feed back on the RS
2) By adding new pipes can the sound be that of a HD. (not to loud).
3) Are the stock seats fine for short trips (200 miles)

Any help will be appreciated

Go for the RoadStar!!! my wife and i brought one a year ago and have enjoyed
every mile on it.
I fitted BUB shortie drag pipes a few weeks after buying her, and she sounds
just like a Harley (the sound has fooled a lot of people) the seats are O.K.
but needed a few hundred miles to bed-in properly.
The performance is outstanding, there would be bits of Harley all over the
highway the sort of speeds the RoadStar can cruise at mile after mile.
The only downer for me, and this is just a personal thing, is that the forks
are too soft, but i shall cure that this winter with some Progressive
Suspension springs.
I've been a Harley owner for a long time, but i recommend the RoadStar for
fun, fuss-free riding.
You won't be dissapointed, happy riding.

Tony, I to went for about 20 yrs. between Bikes .My last MC was a
H.D.Lowrider I enjoyed it very much , but I bought a 2001 Roadstar about 3
Months ago and have about 3000 miles on it so far and really like it alot -I
think it is a comfortable bike to ride and it comes highly recommended from
me .I put the Vance and Hines Longshots on it when it had 4 tenths of a mile
on it and it sounds just fine .I would say buy one or even two for the price
of a Fatboy .Take Care , Larry Talley

I have a 2001 FATBOY, it' my 34th HARLEY. I've been riding and
building Them for 30 years. I have 2 friends with ROADSTARS, one a 99
the other is a 2000. I have rejetted and pipes. So have both of
their bikes. Their is "NO WAY IN HELL" either of those bikes can
compare to the FATBOY in other than looks. The FATBOY IS FASTER!!!
IT HANDLES BETTER!!! IT STOPS BETTER!!! The Fatboy is LESS than
$5,000.00 more than a ROADSTAR, NOT twice as much. You can ride the
HARLEY for years and sell it for what you got in it or MORE!! That
YAMAHA just keeps depreciateing! Both of my buddies bought theirs
because they wanted a FATBOY but did'nt think they could afford it.
Well they are in the wind BUT they Still Want FATBOYS. MY advise to
you is Spend more time on the HARLEY because before your first payment
is due you have already lost $1500.00 or more and you realize the
YAMAHA is not what you wanted! A friend of mine works for a dealership
that sells both. If you cant find a NEW FATBOY for under$16,000.00 E
mail me and i can get you one!

Congratulations on your FATBOY! It must make you very happy to have
your 34TH HARLEY! What's it like to be just ONE OF THE CROWD? When
people see you, do they think you are a YUPPIE DIPSHIT? Does your
FATBOY spend most of its time LEAKING OIL in the GARAGE? Did you know
that most FATBOY owners are "DICK SUCKERS"? When you bought your FATBOY,
did it FALL OVER in the garage onto your CAPS LOCK KEY? Is that why it
STICKS SOMETIMES? Did you know that FATBOY owners are NOT ALLOWED to ride
more than 500 MILES PER YEAR?

I have two (2) comments...

1. Steve's 34th Harley...assuming Steve is about 34, then each of his
Harleys only lasted one year.

2. What is a Harley fanatic doing in a Yamaha newsgroup?

Hello,

I do not understand this kind of discussions.
I like both kind of bikes. my choice was the Yamaha. Wildstar because more
weight, more Cubic.
It drives fantastic on the highway and on low speed it drives less good. I
do not like the sound so far. (needs more grrrrrrrrr)
I did consider to buy the Harley but it makes to much noice, to
expensive(about $8.000 more in Holland) and I like the looks of the Yamaha
more.

So what? Motorbike driving is having your way of fun. Do so and appriciate
everybodys choice and love your own choice.

I have a lot of fun on my Wildstar 1600. I own it for 5 weeks now and made
about 2500 miles so far. I loved every inch of it.

Hi Tony,

I have 3 bikes 98 Fat boy, 2001 Road Star and a 2002 goldwing. I been
riding for about 25 years.

FAT-BOY
The fat boy has way more accessories that the roadstar.
H&D mystic is something to consider.
Run's and sounds good.
good seat.
A little underpowered for it's weight.

ROADSTAR
Awesome low end torque, top end is flat. But for the cruiser drag or just
plain old cruising it will force you to smile.
Durability! My fatboy is been in the shop 2 times the first year of
purchase, with engine problems. The Yamaha has not even coughed.
The standard roadstar seat SUCKS! If you plan to ride 200 miles, better
bring some pain pills :-) (Mustang or Corbin)
Great looks, but the standard pipes are too muted and take away from it's
power. The Yamaha rev. limiter is set to 4250, leaving plenty of unclaimed
power left over. You will want to change this!
Ride is much more "fun" than the fat boy.

Hope this helps.
