I ran one for a few years on my '72 74". I'm now in the process of
switching to a Bendix, but not becuase I was unhappy with the
performance of the CV. I got in the high 30's MPG with it.
I put a Bendix on my sportster and really like it cuz its real easy to
tweak and no jets to worry about with the adjustable main. I'm hoping
to like the Bendix as much on my shovel - its not a high performance
motor, so I figger the Bendix should work fine with it.
Part of the reason is aesthetics. With the CV, the adapter pushes it
out a little farther, and then its got that big 8" air cleaner. I
just like the look of the Bendix on the bike better with its recessed
air cleaner backplate, and smaller 7" cover. I'm hoping the
performance is up to snuff - if not I'll be going back to the CV.
One nice thing about the CV, if you're concerned with gas mileage, it
has a fitting for a VOES vacuum hose. If you're running an electronic
ignition that supports a VOES, that might buy you a few mpg's. If
you're not going to use it, make sure you cap it.
I don't remember which manifold adapter I used - if you have trouble
finding one, I can dig and find the package it came in and pass on the
info - I know I have it somewhere.
One consideration is some sort of support bracket for it. I made on
that bolted to the 5/16" hole in the bototm of the front rocker box.
The other end bolts to a hole I drilled in the back of the air cleaner
back plate. Seemed to be plenty solid. I think I started with one
designed for the S&S and then modified that slightly.
As for jets, I *think* I have a 45 and 180 in it, but I'd have to take
'em out an look to be sure.
Let me know if you have any more questions,

Use the Mikuni adapter for the 42mm flatslide to the stock keihin
manifold.
It's a bit long though, the carb will stick out a bit.
Otherwise, have a flange heliarced to the CV carb spigot, and bolt
it on.
