Hi guys,
ok, I don't want to start a flame war here, I'd just like to hear the
opinion of those people who actually rode both bikes.
I currently own a '99 F4, my first sportbike and I'm very, very happy with
it; I ride everyday, both for commuting home/work/university as well as for
150+miles trips on weekends. For different reasons I'm thinking about
changing it, but I can't decide between another F4 (maybe '00 or maybe the
F4i) or the R6 (also available in years '99-'00-'01).
It seems like the F4 is more confortable, that's important for me as I ride
inside the city all days and I find very easy to move betwen cars and at low
speeds.
On the other hand the R6 has a great engine (really smoother than the F4
one??), but seems to lack low-end power (I ride a *lot* between 3k and 6k).
This is what seems to be from the numbers, but real life experience is often
different.
I'm 22 yrs old, 5'9" and I have been riding sportbikes for 3 months now (no
crashes so far thanks God), previous experience is a Honda XL125 (4 stroke).
I look forward to hear from you guys!
Ride Safe

hmm... change and 99 F4 to an 00 F4.... are you sure??? for what the color?
F4i is a totally different beast.... go sit on one.....

Not to be an ass... ride what you have.... and be happy... most people don't
have such a nice ride...

I do, but that's beside the point....

R6 is a wonderfully stout bike... most of the time, an R6 will out run an
F4, but it's the driver that makes the biggest impact as to how the bike
rides....but I'm an amatuer and don't know much, right?

Well I've got an R6 and it has as much (or more) midrange than any other
600. Don't be mislead by that crazy 15.5K redline.

It does, howver, have a snatchy clutch but that is a small price to pay for
its handling.

Hi Brian,
what is very importan for me is the confort level of the R6.
Which was your longest trip on it? I rode the F4 for 5 hours one day (2.5
hrs trip and back, 2 hours rest in the middle) and came home pretty relaxed
and the other day I felt very good.
What about the R6? What about driving it inside the city, between cars?
Is the clutch issue helped by synt oil?
Thanks

Alejandro

I own a 2000 R6 and have travalled across Europe on it and found it
comfortable. The only dis-comfort though is when in trafic for any time, you
will feel aching in your wrists. (m 6'0" and 175lbs). Hope this helps

His reason for changing is his business. It didn't sound to me like he was
changing bikes to get a prettier color or something equally frivolous. He's
probably got a good reason to get rid of that F4.

Alejandro,

I bought an '01 R6. I originally thought I would get a CBR, but the pictures
I saw in magazines of the F4i all made it look ugly to me. Somehow I managed
to have never seen an F4 (and F3's don't excite me that much, although
they're a comfortable ride).

Anyway, a few months after I bought my R6, I saw my first F4 (parked next to
me at the movies). I fell madly in love. I stood out there inspecting it for
about fifteen minutes. The next day I saw an F4i at my Yamaha dealer
(someone traded it in for a cruiser that his wife was willing to ride on)
and it was pretty nice, too. But if I had it to do over again, I would buy a
2000 used F4 over my new R6 (barring a test drive, but I don't think it
would change my mind). I'd even be willing to consider a 1999 if the 2000
wasn't available in yellow.

Another nice point about the F4 is the one-piece double seat. My girlfriend
isn't comfortable on the back of my split seat--and neither am I.

I've got eyes for the F4, despite how unfair it is to my shiny new blue R6.

Just my $0.02+.

-e.
