I have been reading this newsgroup daily for the past few months and
have not seen any info on the Suzuki RF900R. This would be the Canadian
"label" for the bike. From what I have found out, it was manufactured from
94-97?, has a 5-spd trans, weighs about 203kg and has 125hp stock. This bike
has cought my attention on the street and in a review article. I am
considering it for an upgrade from a Katana 600. It seems that they were
produced in limited numbers? Any info on this bike would be appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Frederic,

This would be a decent upgrade from a Kat. I think the RF900R (same in
the USA) is a vastly underrated machine and I find it attractive also -
except maybe that purple silver color combo,... maybe Canada's are
different?. New 97's should be easily found if you're near a good sized
dealership. It's nearest competitor might be the VFR750, which is far
and away better in every respect, but you pay for that difference too.
If you're not limited too much by $$, I'd check out a VFR if I were you.
You won't be disappointed. Otherwise you should be able to get a real
nice deal on an RF900R. Good luck. BTW, Motorcycle Online compared the
two here:

The RF900R is a very good upgrade from a Katana. It has very good power and is
very comfortable to ride.If you would like more power in the future you can
always install a water cooled GSXR 1100 motor since the both are very close in
design.Since the bike never really got the respect that it deserved, you should
be able to find one pretty cheap.

I think they're great looking bikes also.. I love the side strakes..
The last one I saw at a local dealer was a 96 for $4500.

Our local Suzuki dealer just sold the last leftover RF900 for 6999.00(plus
tax,etc.). I believe they cost over 9000.00 new. Everyone seems to have good
things to say about them except for their weight.

I owned an RF900R for a while - they're a highly underrated bike. It's
very fast (I once saw an indicated 172mph), and makes an awesome scream
when you let it rev out. It's a wheelie monster (I had real trouble
keeping the front wheel down during 'spirited' riding with a pillion and
a Ventura bikepack <g> ). It's a bit heavey by today's standards, but
none the less with decent tyres it'll hustle very nicely in the
twisties. Mine had it's exhaust scraping the road more than once.
It'll pull in top from norevsatall and just take off if you want it too.

Lovely bike - you won't regret buying it.

My neighbor has a maroon RF900R. At first glance it does seem to have a
plain style but the more you look at it the more unique it seems. I think
the RF is one hell of a sport-touring bike, some people try to compare the
RF with supersports Suzuki releases, like their GSXR's, this is where I
think the "underrated bike thing" comes in. You have to compare apples to
apples.
