Hi everyone!
I have a 1991 Yamaha FZR 600 that has a slight oil leak. It isn't a gasket
problem...it's like the oil is actually coming from the engine itself. So,
when you're on the highway or something for a period of time, you end up with
a small amount of oil on your left shoe (or pantleg if you go really fast!). I
was just curious if anyone else has ever had a problem like this on a modern
sportbike, and if so, what did you do?

thanks,
Tyler

That...my friend sounds a lot like....(in order of severity)
1. Loose oil drain plug
2. Excessive oil on the drive chain
3. Leaking gasget around the oil pan
4. Hair-line crack or fissure in the crank case

Hope that gives you some ideas of where to start.

I had a slight leak out of the seal and engine split inside the
alternator. After much diagnostic, it turned out the be loose engine bolts
and the fix was to re-torque the bottom engine bolts.

Every FZ600 I've ever seen, including my own (87) leaks oil from the
valve cover gasket. I replace mine every couple of years. The guys at
my dealership say they all did it. I don't know if the same is true
for the FZR600, but you might start there. It's an easy job. Good
luck.
