Maiden voyage was Mill valley to stinson beach... the bike handled very well, I
rode like a fat lady on stilts however..... and a bit better coming back.

I'm rusty. I pass the hell out of SUV's though.
I'm about 1/3 as fast as in the good old days.

For as slow as I was going, it was sure easy to break the 150 pilot sport (or
whatever) rear tire loose... whats with that I have no clue, it looks like new
rubber. I was doing maybe 70% in the turns max. The rubber seems over
inflated..its very hard.

The front end of the bike was onr ot two degrees biased to the right.. I had to
loosen the triple clamps and then hold the thing to the left and re-tighten them
while holding it to get the bars straight.. the bike seems to track OK though
and did not seem to want to speed wobble when I shook it. Any suggestions?.
I think it might have one tweeked fork tube... maybe a bent front axle. That
would be my guess.

The accident it was in twisted the front forks enough to put a large crack
across the front fiberglass fender. There were some small glancing type tire
rubber marks on the right front fork slider.

the front end 'clunks' a bit over rough surfaces. . Handling was very good
though..it tracked well in the turns and was very responsive to steering and
body postition inputs in the 30 to 70 mph range.

The pegs are lowered 3" and 1.25" forward. I didn't come close to dragging them.
I put high bars on it. Sits like an actual motorcycle... very comfortable for
50 miles.

the throttle had a lot of slop in it on the way into Stinson.. ...I fixed that
in Stinson Beach.

The babe at the grocery store on the hill in stinson was real friendly, either
I've turned into a stud again or she was just trying to encourage an old fart...
I will go back shortly and see if she wants a chocolate bar or something.

Its still a bit sudden though coming off the stops. I don't understand the two
cable thang very well. I do seem to have the slop out of it... its just
sudden..and still maybe a trace of slop.

The stock fairing mounted mirrors give a great view of my knuckles and arms now.
and zip behind me, unless I let go of the bar and look... I could use a clue or
two on the best way to fix that... can you buy mirror extenders for the stock
mirrors or do you need after market mirrors.

Phil, take a look at this site: http://www.mgcycle.com/mirror.html ..
BTW I use a pair of the Napolean bar end mirrors (#1)--these work very well...

The front fender is still in place and the crack goes almost clear across at an
angle, and there is at least a 1/16" maybe an 1/8" difference in elevation
across the crack... could be its the fender that has the front forks tweeked a
degree or two.

Bullshit Phil. No crotch rocket V-twin comes with a 150 rear. A few
track SV guys run 150s but unless you mean a Hawk GT and it's neither a
crotch rocket (naked) or able to break the rear loose unless that tire
is severely heat cycled or very old.

Fess up Phil, is this another tall tale?

On an admittedly toasted old ME55A, I can spin up my Hawk's back tire in
second-gear turns. Did it a couple of times Friday, as a matter of
fact. But leaving that aside...

I'm certainly not apt to fall for a Phil story, but I'm wondering if we
can draw any conclusions from his post. The clues:

o "water cooled V twin"

o "crotch rocket"--probably means it's a sport bike

o "150 pilot sport (or whatever) rear tire"--hedged clue; seems like
he's trying to throw us off

o "front fiberglass fender"--IF Phil knows the difference between
injection-molded ABS and fiberglass, this is surely an aftermarket item

o "tire rubber marks on the right front fork slider"--probably not
upside-down forks

o "The pegs are lowered 3" and 1.25" forward"--that would be a
*radical* change; sounds very fishy to me

o "I put high bars on it"--maybe equipped with a tubular bar

o "I don't understand the two cable thang very well"--dual throttle
cables; I think that eliminates Yamaha, but I'm not sure

o "The stock fairing mounted mirrors"--it has a factory fairing

Where does that leave us? I think we can ignore the possibility that
it's an Aprilia, Ducati, or Guzzi and stick with Japanese bikes.
Kawasaki has built no V-twin sportbikes that I know of. Yamaha's only
candidate is a semi-sporty version of its '80s air-cooled 920. The
complete list of Honda and Suzuki sort-of-sporty, fairing-equipped,
water-cooled V-twins comes down to: VTR250, VTR1000, RC51, SV650S,
TL1000S, TL1000R. Most of those can be eliminated if we scrupulously
hold Phil to his clues, but, allowing for a modicum of blarney, Phil's
new bike is one of those.

I'll bet it didn't have a 150 rear though.

I don't do tall tales... Im guessing at 150, Ii didnt check the size of the rear
tire, it could be a 170. its not old, the bike is only a year old and this
rubber looks about a week old. I havent checked the tire pressure yet.

It has a half faring...so it was not a full blast crotch rocket...now it its a
'standard' with a half faring, soon to have a 10" taller wind screen on it. I
made it out of smoked lexan and have it bent to a curve curing in the sun in the
back yard (that will take a month maybe before it takes the set).

no, I just didnt read the tire size numbers Im guessing, actually I think its a
170 or so.

its the stock item, looks like fiberglass reinforced plastic..a dull grey color
under the paint.

right.

I screwed them via the original brackets to the die cast alum frame. with #8/
1.26 pitch allen screws. drilled and tapped. I got compliments on the job...a
few local mechanics tried it out. I did a good job with the shifting and brake
linkage too.

>
>o "I put high bars on it"--maybe equipped with a tubular bar

nope..drilled two holes in the top triple clamp and bought handle bar stancions
($58) and mounted a comon as dirt set of 7/8" handle bars ($15).. had to
change the clutch cable and the front brake line to the splitter.

3/4 faring I think they call it.

dat be correct son.

amazing. there are a million of them out there, mine is just a run of the mill
example with one scraped up fairing half.. and it drew a few lookers, and a
crotch rocket rider admiring it asking what it was.... go figure. the decals
are still on the fairing telling you ezzactly what it is too... I can see those
will have to go.

soon it will have 'Buelcatti' decals... that will be interesting.

Alright, now we're getting somewhere. Rear tire 170 or so? Eliminate
the VTR250. No full fairing? Eliminate the RC51 and TL1000R.
Cable-actuated clutch? Eliminate the VTR1000. No upside-down forks?
Eliminate the TL1000S. Therefore...

Phil got hisself a Suzuki SV650S. Congratulations.

Yaaaa well why does it say 'Buelcatti' on it then?

Today Im going to run out and get a small piece of 3/8" plywood, and some dense
1" foam and make a low seat for it...sitting on it without the seat in place
seemed like it would handle real well that way especially with the low pegs it
has now.

I could put the stock seat on for longer trips.

and whats with the clunking noise in the front forks going over rough pavement
sometimes?

Tell me something.... I tried sitting on it without the seat... that was real
nice...I just loved sitting low...the seat has 4" of foam...so I took it off and
am saving it for trips etc.

But on the run over to stinson beach and into SF I think i will run a board seat
with 3/4" of hard foam like you find in knee pads and maybe 1/2" or inch of firm
upholstry foam over the top.. that sits me about 3" lower than the stock seat...
I think Im going to like it. the pegs are already down 3" and forward an inch
and a half or so. I can flat foot the bike with some bend in my knees.

Do you think that lossing 3" of high tech cushion is going to put too much shock
to my back? In the good old days we ran accessory seats with a half inch or
less of foam.. and crappy shocks..it wasnt too bad... the shocks these days are
better. .. it might work.

I made the seat. Im going to upholster it tomorrow.

Re the scientologists.... their man Rinuald Lukman is president of OPEC now...so
the cults comodities people know when oil futures are going up or down ahead of

You could use dense foam like the real GP bikes use, or you could try to adapt
a gel pad that contours itself to your butt...

The gel pads are in the online catalogs. Seems to me a seat cover manufacturer

Actually the culties at least of the 80's and 90's, intelligence and dirty
tricks dept were deeply into voodoo and various other forms of black magic at
the time. Hubbard was a well known satanist and black magician in the 40's
Apparently though thats fading in effectiveness as Nicole got over half of short
