All I will say is that if you don't have the proper equipment, location, and
skill, don't try it. It will never look as good as a pro job.

I painted my old Katana using automotive spray cans (thinner, higher power
tip) and it came out good, not as good as a fresh professional job, but
good. My prime recommendations are as follows:
1) Get a peice of plexi glass from home depot, practice on it.
2) Painting one color is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH^10 easier than painting
multiple colors and taping off.
3) With spray cans, darker colors come out better.
4) Spray a very light coat, wait a few minutes, do it again, etc for 5
coats. Let completely dry, sand, then repeat a billion times.
5) Spray the clear coat on RIGHT after the last coat of color paint, don't
wait to sand the last coat. There should be no need to sand the clear
coat, just polish and wax.
MOST important:
6) DO NOT use the fairings for a couple of weeks, and DO NOT let them get
in the rain for at least a month unless you are using REALLY good paint.
(Don't ask me how I know)
Also, if you enjoy doing this, professional spray equipment can be bought
at home depot for ~$200

You should know "crash". Hey when riding a bike you are to face the
front of it or you may end up going off the road and eating some
gravel.
