Oh man... Each time I come here, there's just so much spam for the last year
and a half or two - or so it seems... Fishing through all the junk to find
someone is quite the headache :( So I haven't even checked in for a while
because the spam makes my head spin :(
I know there was talk a while back about moving elsewhere, but I never

Happy New Year and is there anyone else still around here??

I've mostly lurked, but I'm glad you have something that is working.
I've been wondering how he was doing. My boy is doing vision therapy
now and it is making a big difference in school. I think there is some
overlap in these therapies.

Hm... Maybe I'll go abouts looking for that yahoo group when I have some
time or something... see who is all there. How's Mo been?
That's awesome he's loving school. I've heard good things about OT - but I
don't really know much about that. DD1 has an OT in her school, but I tend
to get confused about who does what with her and the class and what's going
on. haha

We moved back towards the end of October. Bought a place in a very quiet
and nice neighbourhood. Unfortunately it seems that most of the neighbours
are older. Like... I feel like I'd be about the same age as the neighbours'
children, if they have any.
It's quite, there's NO noise and issues. There's no cops or security here
every other night over noise or some domestic dispute, as it was before we
moved.
I love it. It's a little bit bigger of living space than the townhouse, the
yard is 5x as big now, I have a driveway and don't have to park in a parking
lot. My kitchen is hideous. Literally. But at least it's MY kitchen, so I
don't care.

The kids are alright. DS will be 9 at the end of this month. He's mouthy,
rude, loud, destructive... But he's smart, doing very well in school and his
behaviour has been changing slowly but surely and things as far as that goes
are getting better. Slowly but surely. I think moving has had the biggest
benefit for him. He's NOT getting into trouble like he was before we moved.
So far, anyway. I'm hoping to get him into the community here - they have
events and such, or so I hear, that the youth in the community get together
for games, movie nights, whatever. I just haven't had time to get looking
into that just yet, but I plan to. Get him out to meet other kids,
hopefully. Football is over for the season but starts up again soon for
spring camp, which I know DS is looking forward to. I'm not sure if I'm
ready for that just yet, but I do enjoy it anyway!

DD1 is alright as well. She was 4 in Aug and has started her first year in
school. I did get her into the one school I had wanted her in for early ed.
She was considered to have a severe speech delay and a few other delays that
are related to the speech. I don't even know off hand, and I don't have all
the papers here right now ;) She's doing very well. I'm hoping she can
reach the goals that have been set that we're all aiming for (well, parents
+ teachers) She has a new little friend... First all I heard was "Hannah!
Hannah!" and apparently this little Hannah in her class was her best friend.
Now all I hear is Christopher, who I guess is her newest best friend. It
took me about a week of hearing "tisser!" before I figured it out as
"Christopher"

DD2 was 3 in October, and as of today, so far, she was wearing underwear and
hasn't peed in them yet. As of last night (she did wake up wet last night,
but whatever... Not the end of the world) she has actually wanted to sit on
the potty and has been peeing. We even went out for about an hour and she
was in panties and didn't have an accident. Woo. That's a major thing here
hahaha I'm actually going to see if I can get her in to the speech/language
pathologist as I did with DD1, just to be on the safe side about her speech.

DD3 will be 1 beginning of Feb and is able to walk but doesn't. She'll
dance, though. She's always been real easy going and there's really not
much to say about her. She loves watching the older kids play. At this
age, she really doesn't do much haha Oh, she does love scattering the dog's
food around if she's fast and sneaky enough to get at it before she's
noticed ;)

What newsserver do you use? I use the formerly free German server (now E 10
per year) and I hardly see any spam at all. I hear the free server of
Eternal September is good as well, though I don't have any personal
experience with it.

Any spam that does get through on the news server I use is usually sent by a
few people (who send plenty of messages). Blocking the sender makes for
virtually spam free NGs for me.

It's the Sanc that has moved to Yahoo, when the original site was closing
down.

> How's Mo been?

Mo has been extremely busy, poorly organised, chaotic and under a lot of
stress. A year and a half of conflict with the university has definitely
taken its toll and there's no end in sight :-(. Add to that problems with
the tax office (since 2006), problems with my disability benefit (since
2007) and plenty of other stuff that makes my toes curl on a daily basis and
I'm sure you can see why I am falling apart. There's only so much a person
can take and my limit has long been surpassed. Long story short: I am
struggling to get back some normalcy and organisation in my life.

I know the feeling. The neighbourhood I moved to back in 2006 is filled with
ancient people. My next door neighbours have been married for nearly 70
years, need I say more LOL? Even my parents weren't born when that couple
got married ROTFL.

I don't. I use outlook express. I have tried a few different options, and

I'm also using what was intended to be a computer mostly for DS. My
computer kind of crapped out back in the spring and I didn't bother fixing
it since I knew I just simply needed something newer and all that. New
often = some kind of $ and at that point in time, I didn't have the money to
spare and wouldn't have wasted anyways, so just got in the habit of using
this current one haha I also haven't really done much for blocking sender as
any given day, if I wasn't keeping up daily with the NGs, the spam would
have me sitting for an hour with "block sender... block sender... block
sender..."
We just need a new computer :(

Neither do I, and I use Outlook Express as well. I am very set in my ways
and see no reason to change ;-).

Outlook Express is a programme though, and not a news server. Just like you
need a provider to get online, you need a news server to get access to news
groups. Most providers have their own news group server, that just comes
with the package for free. When the provider doesn't provide access to a
news group server, you can easily access news groups through Google Groups,
but I find using a news server much easier. If you've ever set up an email
account in Outlook Express, you can set up a news account, it works the same
way. There's a how to guide in the link I've just posted in another message.

I know exactly where you're coming from :-(, I need a new computer as well,
this one is nearly 8 years old.

The amount of spam varies greatly with the news server you are using. Or are
you using Google Groups? That's renowned for the incredible amount of spam.
Sometimes I look up an old message on Google Groups and I honestely cannot
believe the amount of spam I then see in the groups. I see less than 5% of
what I can find in Google, my news server has a great spam block.

That won't help with the spam though.

That's exactly it. It works, there's no reason to make changes. When it
breaks, that's when I'm forced to do something about it. I was even
refusing to even switch from Win98SE to XP and only went with XP when I had
absolutely no choice and there was no support left for 98. I am still with
XP right now and would sooner go computerless than go with Vista, and I have
ZERO desire for whatever that new one is. This works as is for now. Change
is rarely good when it comes to computers, or so it seems LOL

Yes, I just use my email that I have through my ISP, and I just use their
news servers and emails and everything. And it's all in OE, so it's all
there. No dinking around for me. It's simple, fast, works and is lacking
complication when using. I've also used my ISP server for newsgroups and my
ISP email for probably about 8 or so years now... Maybe even more...
Considering DS will be 9 at the end of this month ;)
I would rather not see groups if I have to use Google. That, I've found, is
just asking for even more problems because the spam there is just beyond
anything.

This one was a freebie I was given, just as something for DS more to use.
So it's fairly basic. I can't do much for upgrading as it's one of those
mini Dell cases that doesn't allow even another hard drive in it, nor can I
put in a CD burner... it has a CD/DVD drive only, and it's not a burner haha
All my drives from *my* computer are sitting in a box in my bedroom beside
the closet, waiting for me to deal with them.

No, not necessarily, but it does. On my computer, I spent the time and
effort with setting it up the way I like and want it and need it. I had
things my way. On my computer that kind of exploded and I just gave up on
and sent off to where they recycle junk computers and similar, I had
everything set up. I rarely had spam. I had rules and everything set up
and it was a surprise when something managed to get through, just the way I
had actually spent some time and effort with rules and stuff for OE and
groups. I just couldn't be bothered with this computer, mostly because I
didn't plan on this being the computer I'd use much or for any length of
time. And I also keep telling myself to do something with another
computer - but what's the difference? Even right now as I type, I'm sitting
on the floor at the computer, which is sitting on a lousy Ikea end table
hahah

outlook express is your news *reader*. it's not a server :)
your server appears to be individual.net

XP is no longer supported. no biggie. i still use it on my laptop.
i have Vista on my desktop, & surprisingly enough it works fine...
but i did turn off all the stupid crap that runs in the background &
set it to look like the "classic" (Win 98/XP).
Tom just got a new computer with Win7 and he's been complaining a
LOT. i have the upgrade, but i'm waiting until they get it stable.

mad because I expected her to help pay the bills instead of sponging
off me.

TF & YS were both working at the same restaurant at that point. YS,
at 17, made 100% on his hs graduation test, then went on to score high
enough on the ASVAB that the Navy offered him anything he wanted. He
turned it down, figured that with his history of brief bouts with
asthmatic broncitis, he couldn't afford the risk.

A few months ago, YS decided to move back home to be near his father
for the first time in 13 yrs. He took the nursing entrance exam and
scored 986/1000. He's now enrolled in LPN school. He plans to spend
the 11 months getting his LPN, then work while going on to get a 2yr
RN, then work as an RN while going to pharmacy school.

TF is still at the same restaurant, albeit in a more managerial-type
role.

Me - I started romantically seeing a good friend on 2/21/09. Prior to
that, I was going to just be his kids' "favorite aunt" - the one who
spoiled them with things like boxing gloves for the boys to beat up
their daddy with. (hehehe... he almost refused to ever speak to me
again after that one.) By April, I was preggers. In June, I
miscarried.

We're still together. And his ex is... grrrrrrrrrrr... Where's the
old step-parents group when I need it???

Anyhow... I'll try to get back online later. Heading for bed now.

I said elsewhere something about everything being through my ISP.
I've never heard of individual.net, but I googled it. It appears to be
something about Berlin??
I have no idea, but I've never heard of it, everything - news and mail - are
set up in OE for me and everything is through my ISP. They have newsgroup
server address that's put in and maybe it's somewhere down the line with
this individual.net?? I don't pay for it. Or, rather, I pay the same
amount for my Internet if I used 100gb up and down or 0.1mb... Or if I use
nothing of newsgroups or if I use 100 different groups. Apparently very few
people as of late don't use newsgroups at all, but the ISP still offers
them. I noticed this when I called in about something and somehow it came
up - the tech I was talking to had no idea about newsgroups or anything like
that and had to ask someone else about it.
I'm not even sure if that makes any sense.

I had to go with XP when I got a new computer (this was long ago) and there
was nothing I could do about drivers, mostly. I had to upgrade to XP.
This computer, however, is the same story, I'm sure, although I've never
tried to use 98 (SE or otherwise). This computer still seems to be just
fine as it is running with XP, and I have done a full wipe and reinstall on
it with XP - although not very recently, but I'd guess within the last year
and a half or so??
I'm sure that if and when we were to ever get something newer than this
computer, it would be the same problems with no support and no choice but to
upgrade. Until then, I will not change the OS on this computer, just
because as it goes, it goes, and I can't complain about that. As long as
it's going, I'm good.
I've heard very little about that Windows 7 - at least, that's what I think
it's called, and after you said it, I'm sure that's what it is... I've heard
AND had nothing but issues with Vista. Mainly on the computers of friends
and family... and to which I tell them too bad, I can't help them. I'm
familiar with up to XP and I get far too frustrated with Vista. It just
makes me angry, but when it comes to new computer time and this one craps
out, then I guess I'll have to deal with my frustrations at that point???
Nice to hear that there's complaints about the newest Windows hahaha...
always seems to be that way :( There's never any winning, it seems.
