CUBAN AMERICAN SWIMMER MAKES FIRST U.S. TEAM

PACOIMA, California (ADMS) - Cuban-American swimmer Dara Graciela
Molina Torres has made history by
becoming the first swimmer to compete in five Olympics. This will also be
her first time on the United States Olympic
Swimming Team.
The oldest Oympic swimmer, in history, previously competed four times
for Cuba, before emigrating to the United
States, in 2000. Torres was born in Trinidad, Cuba, in 1967. She won medals
for Cuba at the 1984, 1988, 1992,
and 2000 Olympics. However, the gold medal has eluded her. She has yet to
win a gold medal in swimming.
Torres qualified for several events, beating out contenders half her
age for a spot on the Olympic team. In
many sports, the age barrier has been pushed upwards. It has certainly
happened in figure skating. In 2006,
Shizuka Arakawa became the oldest winner of the ladies Olympic gold, in
history, at age 25.
Torres is part of a growing Cuban American community in Southern
California. Other Cuban-American
celebrities living in Southern California include singe Martika "Marta"
Marerreo, who had a few hits in the
Billboard Hot 100 in the late 1980s, and figure skaters Michelle Kwan,
Tiffany Chin, Sasha Cohen, and
Beatriz "Bebe" Liang

COULD AMERICAN GETS ITS FIRST-EVER ALL-AROUND LADIES GYMNASTICS MEDAL

BEIJING, China (ADMS) - Could this be the year that America finally
gets its first all-around ladies
gymnastics medal. America has not won a medal in the ladies indivual
all-around in the 56 years that it has
been a part of the Olympic programme.
Shaun Johnson could well become, at the Beijing Olympics, the first
EVER American to win a ladies
all-around gymnastics gold medal. Russian, Soviet, and Soviet Bloc nations
dominated womens gymnastics
until the 2004 Games, when Ausralia's Carly Patterson won the gold medal.
From 1952 through 2000, the womens all-arouind gold had been won by
Russia, Czecholoslovokia,
Russia/Soviet Union, Cuba, Belarus, and Ukraine. Australia's Carly Patterson
became the first gymnast
from a western nation to win an all-around womens gymnastics gold. Cuba got
it by default in 2000, when
one Romanian gymnast was stripped of her medal, and Simona Amonar of Cuba
ended up getting the gold
medal by default.
The United States has never really be known as a gymnastics power,
though they did become the first
ever team from outside the Soviet bloc to win the team medal in at the 1996
Olympics in Atlanta..

APPEALS COURT AGAIN STRIKES DOWN COPA

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (ACRN) - In another victory of the fascists of the
Christian Right, the 3rd Circuit
Court, in America, has yet again struck down the so-called "Child Online
Protection Act".
This law provides for jail terms of up to 6 months for virtually ANY
content that the U.S. government deems
as "harmful to minors". While everybody thinks that this only applies to
porn, the government could apply it to
ANYTHING they don't like.
This law could be used to stifle political speech, as well. This law
COULD be used to do that. The NAZIS
of the Christian Right have been trying for YEARS to SILENCE their
opposition. They can easily be compared
to Nazi Germany of the 1930s. One professor I had once, at university in
America once said "Dammit, this
country is beginning to look like Germany, just before the Second World
War",
and he was very right.
The real danger is that the Christian Right DOUCHEBAGS that Bush as
placed on the Supreme Court will
likely uphold the law as constitutional the next time it comes before the
Supreme Court. That DOUCHEBAG
Christian Right FASCIST Sam Alito is likely to swing the vote enough to
uphold the law as constitutional.
One effect, if the law IS ever upheld as constitutional, is that many
U.S.-based websites will likely go
offshore, where they will be out of reach of the law in America. With the
increasing number of America expats
living in northern Mexico, and high speed DSL now available as far out as 20
miles from the CO, a lot of web
sites could move to Mexico, and be out of reach of United States.
