A few days ago, on the "The De Sitter Challenge - Has to be answered"
thread, Trevor answered me as follows:

Crackpot Misinterpretation of the Train and Embankment Gedanken
Observer B rides a train 2 light-seconds long which is traveling
to the right. He is equipped with a spectroscope capable of
accurately measuring small shifts in lightning emission lines.
As B passes A, lightning simultaneously (as measured in A's
frame) strikes the track at either end of the train. B detects
the right lightning bolt 0.995 seconds after he passes A. From
the Doppler blueshift, B knows that his speed relative to the
lightning bolt was 0.005 c. B therefore knows that the lightning
struck at the exact moment that he was passing A. B likewise
detects the left lightning bolt 1.005 seconds after he passes A.
From the measured Doppler redshift of the bolt, B knows that he
was moving at 0.005 c away from the bolt, and he therefore
calculates that the left bolt also struck at the exact moment
that he was passing A.
Observer B therefore calculates that, as near as he could tell,
the left and right bolts struck at exactly the same time, and
concludes that all this stuff about "relativity of simultaneity"
is nothing but a bunch of hogwash.
