I am planning on painting the outside of our mobilehome and would like some
advice.
I understand that the first step is to use a power washer to wash the
siding. Should I use any detergent in the spray and if so should I rinse the
siding afterward? We live in So.Calif., how long will the siding take to
dry? I have heard that I should wait one week. Can't I paint if the siding
feels dry to the touch?
The siding is some kind of masonite with 1/4 in deep ridges vertically every
12 in or so. I am not inclined to use a sprayer and I would like something
faster than using a brush. I see my options as roller, roller with hollow
handle to suck up paint, (as seen on TV), and power roller (Wagner?). What
are the pros and cons of these methods. Does the clean up time for the power
roller and waste of paint remaining in the system overcome the possible time
savings? I would be doing the painting over 4 or 5 days.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you. You might want to try posting to
alt.home.repair. There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable people (DIY
and Pros) who can probably answer this for you. Also, you should probably
give a little more info about the condition of the siding and existing paint
(approximate age, peeling or flaking paint, bare siding showing through in
places, etc...) Any of these will affect the drying time. The main thing
that you dont want to do is trap moisture behind the paint.

Good Luck,

Karl

Sounds like you may have what I do (wood T-111 siding).
Painted my place with one of those "fill the handle with paint" things,
all I can say is that the work went real *FAST* did main painting in
probably less than 1/2 day per coat (24 X 56 double wide)....
Doing the trim is what takes time (brush for that).
