I noticed on the few groups on Usenet that still have some traffic
(such as alt.politics.usa), that the standard procedure in 2020 is to
"post and run."
Post something (usually a link to someone else's commentary) then move
on to posting something else (which is usually a link to someone
else's commentary).
That's it.
No replies. No conversations between posters. No comments. Just random
posts to links on the internet. Post and run.
I suppose that can be a good thing, it cuts down on trolls and BS
personal attacks, seeing as no one acknowledges anyone else's posts on
Usenet anymore. It is like a text selfie.
I have attempted to have a couple of conversations (reply to) a few
posts on Usenet that I deemed somewhat interesting, but nothing came
of it. No reply from the original poster, just on to the next text
selfie.
Not that Usenet was ever that great a place for conversations in the
past, but some posters attempted to conversate once in a while. BTW,
don't ever attempt to "conversate" on alt.appalachian, that group has
a few people who I truly believe have certified schizophrenia and are
downright vitriol for no reason (I call them mean girls at a lunch
table).
Yeah, I get that it is ironic I am bitching about meanness on
newsgroups while I am posting from alt.misanthropy where I call humans
"puddles of mud." The difference is in my pathetic mind, I don't
single out individual people out (unless they are in the public eye,
such as politicians) and call them puddles of mud. I will attempt to
have decent conversations with people on Usenet and in real life
without resorting to name calling, or ignoring them because I am a
narcissistic a-hole.
After my latest "Dark Night of the Soul" episode (which lasted 10
years), my ego is pretty well shot, I no longer consider myself a
narcissistic a-hole, I now consider myself just your average everyday
a-hole.
